The risk of developing a blood clot after having COVID-19 is eight times higher than after being given the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, according to a study by Oxford University.

Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) occurred in 39 in a million COVID-19 patients, compared with about five in a million people given the AstraZeneca jab.

In the study of over 500,000 coronavirus patients, the risk was reported to be around 100 times higher than normal after infection.

Some useful numbers about vaccine effectiveness:
These articles are just terrible. The punchline suggests infection after being vaccinated is rare, but the detail is that infections after vaccination are as high as 29%.
Detection may only be via a test and that what is rare is mild symptoms and even more rare is severe symptoms.

The article is perfectly clear. Your comprehension is not. The 29% refers to the fraction of those infected who are asymptomatic. This is a well known fact, and has nothing to do with any vaccines.

Glad that we weren't told to stay at home, enjoy Netflix, and order takeaways....

Oh, hold on.
So it took a 10 month study to come to the conclusion that regular exercise helps prevent illness,
the mind boggles

WHO chief says Covid-19 infection rate approaching highest of pandemic so far

The number of new Covid-19 cases per week has nearly doubled globally over the past two months, approaching the highest rate seen so far during the pandemic, the head of the World Health Organisation said on Friday.

Yet it seems the worst offender is not part of the rate increase...

Thought it a bit weird that a country with 1.5 billion people, all densely packed together, had almost no infections.

India is a bit counter-intuitive, but every country has had waves that are hard to explain. In a recent BBC article I saw two possible explanations:
1. Most buildings do not have air conditioning, and rely on natural ventilation.
2. Most shopping is done at outdoor markets, at least until the monsoon season.

None of these factors offers a clear explanation, but does indicate how complicated the story is. The recent surge is likely due to behavioural changes:

Or how utterly stupid most of the hype was and still is.

Or how utterly stupid mos of the hype was and still is.

I'll go back to repeating my previous statement.

If you're young and healthy it must appear to be hype.

If you're not young and not healthy we wish it was just hype.

One of the few things that didn't affect me - those haven't been in the budget for decades.
I had an 8 year old who had a massive growth spurt in April and my two nieces and they didn't pack enough. No idea why, so on the 1st of May I was out at the clothing shop.
