Anyone else experience mega latency over the SAIX network ?
Browsing this site (local) and international is dog slow. Pings are
fine but maybe http being throttled ? Dunno, cant explain it otherwise.

Give me strength. If I make it through this weekend, I'm finding a new ISP on Monday morning.

Just spoke with a consultant at SAIX, and per usuall didnt wnt to talk to me and said i needed to refer to my ISP. So i rang imaginet, and they said they had just received a email from SAIX saying that all international bandwidth was down due to a problem with the newyork pipe. Now why did SAIX not just tell me this straight away! They need to sort them selves out and do something about their customer service....

thanks for letting me know in a far nicer way than i received it from webafrica!

I would generally rather phone to find out, because it puts them on the spot and they have to deal with it right then and there, while emailing them may take forever.

I'm having bursts of connectivity.. on dialup and using TelkomSA. Sometimes a site's not loading at all, other times it's loading faster then I've ever known it to do so before O_o (and no, it's not cause the site was cached :P)

I just called Telkom's ADSL technical support line (0800 375 375) and I was told that the line connecting Rosebank to NY is down and that they are working on it. The people who connect through this line (e.g. users in Pretoria and Joburg) will experience limited or no international connectivity.

Im in port elizabeth how would you explain myself getting no international activity?.. The rosebank exchange is the main exchange where all network activuty in south africa gets processed.

Its not only Johannesburg, Pretoria. Its also here in Durban...already since this morning 4 AM. And it has been still not resolved.

I dont know if your reply was directed at me, but since it is immediately below I will assume it was.

I cannot explain why you have no connectivity. I am not your service provider nor am I from Telkom technical support.

I am just a guy who called telkom to ask why I was having problems with MY connection. If you read my post, I am only repeating what the guy at the ADSL technical support line told me.

If you find the information I posted useful, then I'm glad I could help. If not, then I suggest you pick up the phone and call yourself to find out what YOUR problem is. The number is 0800 375 375.

lol, nah it was a rhetorical question (propably didnt sound like it tho :s) Wasnt trying to be harsh or anything, it was mainly aimed at the SAIX ppl they never know what they are talking about. when i phoned this morin i had to explain to them what "international bandwidth" was..... now thats just pathetic

sorry, I thought you were asking me and I thought WTH??? lol

I agree, sometimes I find that my call needs to be transferred two or three times before I can speak to someone who knows what they are talking about!

I am in Cape Town and the international connection has been bad since the early hours of the morning.
Accoring to SAIX:
The New York to Rosebank-Link is down. They suspect a cable break. Overseas technicians are still busy investigating but Lands slide overseas has impacted the restoration of our link. Overseas technicians are waiting for permission for access from the Government as this is a disaster area.

looks like its back to normal now:

A ping means very very little, use the "tracert www.yahoo.com" to see exactly where the problem lies.
