Hi,
I'm considering getting a virtual server in the USA for my E-Mail. I simply can't afford to pay the local ISP's the rates they require to feed Telkom.
About a year ago, POP3 was declared as abusive usage by Telkom, and one could not download E-Mail from the USA reliably at all.
I notice on the new website that POP3 is no longer considered as an abusive activity.
Does anybody have recent experience downloading e-mail from the USA?
Thanks
PS: I hope Telkom gets the message soon: Local bandwidth is still far to expensive compared to international norms. Unless you drop the pricing of local bandwidth drastically, more and more people will move their servers overseas - and consume more of the precious and expesinve international bandwidth.
I intend moving about 2GB per month traffic overseas. There I can get 1 TB per month for less than I can get 2GB locally. It breaks my heart not supporting a local ISP, but in the end, the cost just becomes a serious problem.
South Africa needs World Class Broadband at World Competitive Prices.
