Figured I'd create my own thread for my ramblings & stock [-]investing[/-] gambling adventures instead of continuously hijacking the stockwatch one...

Behold - an entirely undiversified portfolio of weed stocks, some more weed stocks, a little bit of tobacco/hemp biotech, then for good measure some weed ETFs with an additional weed+tobacco+hemp ETF to round it out.

So basically a moerse dagga YOLO.

Portfolio.JPG

Today was a grand day:

Shares.JPG

  • Wanted to buy MPX(CSE) but apparently I need pink sheet approval for that. So that idea is on ice till that gets approved
  • Bought more MJX instead since the ticker looks similar :)p). Seemed like the safest bet for a couple % gains till approval
  • XXII is interesting today hit 52w high - either because MJX is buying XXII for ETF or news on the FDA front. Super excited - could be big in <month
  • No idea why WEED is up so much. Seems sketchy & think it'll correct tomorrow
  • MJX is scaring the hell out of me mostly due to my high avg cost. As is the mega GBP.CAD exposure.
In other news enabling securities lending has been a success. Getting about 3 USD a day from the xxii (=10% pa). Yay free money. :D

Next step - Sell MJX, buy MPX, Auscann and more HMMJ.

Anyway...all of the above is highly risky so don't copy & do your own research. Entire weed sector is due for a crash at some point tbh:eek:

Somehow this sounds like the best idea ever
oh I hope so. I've got about a mil riding on this atm so could either be awesome or hella ugly. So far awesome.

I reckon it's a fairly unique opportunity though: Start of a new industry with a product with proven demand (black market) that was artificially suppressed via legislation.

The perfect sleep-like-a-baby-at-night portfolio: Weed stocks, crypto and small cap biotech.
:crylaugh:
haha yeah not designed with stability in mind. This stuff doesn't really phase me though tbh so doesn't mess with my sleep.

---------

Anyway. Today was a resoundingly "meh" day with a decent lick of red mostly due to bad news hitting CBW.
  • CBW - announced debt raise to fund an investment, market didn't like the dilution. Up 200% on this so pretty ambivalent
  • XXII - down 6.8% (w/ AH). Nothing happened. The thing is just jumpy AF by nature
  • MJX - the custodians are antsy about the nature of the investments. Apparently trading at a sizable discount to NAV as a result but can't find a live NAV.
  • WEED - Unstoppable. Hit 100% gain today
  • Strong rumour has it a big alcohol player is going to enter the market

Decided to post only when something actually happens/moves going forward.

So today sucked balls. Officially going to bed 60k poorer than I woke up.

Overall weed sector had a mini-dip so everything is blood-red. XXII holding steady since it's not really weed primarily. Miffed that MJX is below my cost price though.

Anyway aside from the Auscann I already mentioned I also found something else interesting. ATE - biotech play that I like. Super risky though so probably won't stick a lot of money into it & would have to be a long term hold. Plus price needs to come down a bit...think it's currently pumped a bit (as evidenced by the fact that I heard about it :crylaugh:).

On an unrelated note - finding it pretty unreal that XXII is returning 8-10% in just securities lending interest.

Let's see what tomorrow brings. While today was bleak AF I'm not seeing anything suggesting this is a bad plan....

Interesting. Didn't think there would be funds with yields that high.

Thanks for answering

------

As for weed stuff - today looks to be another heavy red day. It's Friday though so whatever.

Took some profit in MJX ($32-$35). Waiting for it to come down again for another drag of the spliff.

AMZA consists of MLPs which pay high dividends. Add leverage and covered put/call selling and you get ±23%. They've been paying out $0.52 per quarter since inception despite the precipitous drop in oil prices.

Also investigate Closed-end Funds (CEF). The granddaddy of all funds. They are generally not meant for trading but for keeping looooong term.

Edit: On my watchlist

RESN - Resonant Inc
OMER - Omeros
ACHN - Achillion Pharmaceuticals

Skipped a week cause nothing interesting happened. Bit up, bit down, bit side-ways - overall up around 2k GBP mostly recovering that dip from last post.

Up about 1.8k GBP today so that's solid. Today is opportunistic LMT order day...

Firstly pink sheet approval came through. So kicking that off with a small ultra-lame sucker punch attempt - a GTC LMT at 0.23 on this:
DIGP.JPG

Company equity structure seems a little shady tbh so don't actually want it but if that executes then that'll be fab.

Next MJX gained a fair bit after hours & I've been meaning to get out of that, so set a LMT that I reckon has a 50/50 chance of getting me out of that position at a sweet price in the next 24 hours:

MJX.jpg

If that executes I'll be sitting on a lot of cash...not yet sure what to do about that. Looking for a good US weed play but it all looks rather lukewarm since there is nothing direct yet (legally). So maybe AusCann on ASX.

XXII has been on a tear lately (up 8% today and 15%+ in last week) and I fully expect that to keep going. Between the FDA's new-ish stance on tobacco and overall global weed sentiment it seems like a winner. That said it's notorious for burning people...so who knows.

Also investigate Closed-end Funds (CEF). The granddaddy of all funds.
That's my day job. ;)

Took some profit in MJX ($32-$35). Waiting for it to come down again for another drag of the spliff.
Two new ETFs launching that imo are better bets
HMJR - HMMJ junior edition
SEED - actively managed

HMJR is a solid bet for a 3 month hold imo so probably doing that...once I figure out when it launches :/

Thanks for the watchlist btw - will check those out when I've got more time. AMZA seems really cool, but will give that a miss for now ...divs mess with my taxes

What a day...70k zar /4k gbp down today.

Still well up overall, but wow the last week has sucked.

Annoyed about this part though - this comment:

Well it never hit the limit and that was right here:

Right so finally something interesting happened.

XXII has key patents on low nicotine. Tomorrow the FDA is releasing an advance rule notice of their plans to reduce nicotine levels dramatically. Text is already known and company in question is mentioned multiple times. Practically announcing they're planning to align US national policy to what is this little company's main purpose for existence.

During pre-market hours the price jumped 18%...then on open fell back to the range it's been in for a while. Widespread rumours that it's being artificially pinned there.

Company has also been completely silent despite this major news dropping. (Text today, official tomorrow). Doesn't seem remotely plausible to me that the price doesn't move on such favourable news...

So in keeping with the spirit of this thread I decided to go for high risk high reward. Maximum edition...

Call options expiring tomorrow. 150 contracts @3 call. Share price currently at 2.6 usd

Cost about 15k zar...that in 24 hours is either worthless or worth (share price - 3) *150* 100 * 11.89 zar

One catch with that is that I certainly don't have 5 bar on hand to exercise those contract if they do hit strike. So if that happens it's either dump the contracts in a somewhat illiquid market or rely on broker auto exercise at close.

Also upped my share position on this massively (about a third of a bar)...so now carrying a genuinely terrifying amount of straight risk exposure on a single small & volatile biotech company.

No guts no glory.

Tomorrow is Saint Patrick so I shall have a Guinness either way...celebrate or be sad.

Well that confirms it - price is being manipulated.

Every morning, regardless of pre-market price within minutes of market open it blows past everything to low 2.60s.

Pity - that like means my calls are going to expire.

edit..holy sht...that's going back like a month.

sigh...didn't have the cash on hand at the time & got side-tracked.

Would have been a good 300%

Canadian Senate passes weed legalisation bill...

tenor.gif

Unrelated..gonna short UEPS tomorrow. That's the company behind the questionable SASSA social grants contracts. Seems like a good play - indirectly shorts the ZAR, their contract is about to end & they're in a bunch of court battles and are heavily reliant on the revenue from this one source. Plus I desperately need short positions in my portfolio...getting jittery about a big market correction. And if the shorts have strategic benefit too...might just win on both sides. :D

Interactive brokers
-10k USD minimum
-Interface looks dated
+Fees are good
+Access to every market known to mankind

Plus has a share lending program, which most brokers don't. That's proven surprisingly profitable - getting about 2k zar from that monthly for doing nothing.
