International Speeds on 4 Mbit/sec

I have an 1024/4096 ADSL connection with Mweb and looking at my INTERNATIONAL download speeds on TCPIQ I notice that they are never above 512 kbps and average at about 384 kbps.

I understand that the ADSL service is a "best effort service", but was wondering what other users results are like in comparison before I even attempt to complain to Mweb or Telkom.

Am I wasting my time complaining as I really think these speeds are pathetic on what should be a 4096 kbps line?

well on a telkom ISP account... my torrents average out between 360KB/s and 410KB/s.

you tube streams at 400KB/s, and microsoft updates sometimes hit 430KB/s.

so i get proper 4Mbis/sec service i would say.

How the f**k*? My torrents are painfully slow most of the time, the only place I get 400kb/s is usually tucows.saix.net!

The speeds are erratic based on time and server your getting your download from.

Best torrent speed i've achieved internationaly was 390KB/sec. But there is definitly some hardcore shaping going on on non http traffic.

Depends on whether you have a shaped or unshaped account. Also something I have noticed is that the speeds differ depending on the hardware and bandwitdth available to the site your downloading from.

Ie. I am running a 4MB line but downloading from the PietSmith.com website who only has a 1.5MB line out I am getting a lower speed then from MS who is running 100MB line out of their premises.

(I am using examples above to illustrate the point)
