Hey guys

Can someone please help me. I have no idea what is happening, but my problem is with slow international download speeds.

I have a Telkom ADSL line syncing at 8meg. Stable and reliable. Here are my stats
Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin: 12.0 6.0 db
Line Attenuation: 23.0 14.5 db
Data Rate: 8128 992 kbps
Max Rate: 11040 1116 kbps
CRC: 26934 111

Current ISP: Afrihost
Other ISP's tested: Telkom ISP and Axxess
Router: TP-Link TD-4961ND
PC: Windows XP; Firefox, Avast AntiVirus, Windows Firewall
Phone: Samsung Galaxy SII Android 4.1, WiFi

Local speed is perfect: averaging 830kB/s download and 110kB/s upload on all ISP's (LAN and WiFi)

My problem is slow international download speeds- everything including web browsing, YouTube, etc.

Speedtest.net Download results on PC via LAN (direct LAN cable to router):
On Afrihost; speedtest.net download results to various servers give me around 30kB/s
On Axxess; speedtest.net download results to various servers give me around 30kB/s
On Telkom; speedtest.net download results to various servers give me around 50kB/s

Speedtest.net Download results on Android phone via WiFi (close to router - full strength):
On Afrihost; speedtest.net download results to various servers give me around 50kB/s
On Axxess; speedtest.net download results to various servers give me around 50kB/s
On Telkom; speedtest.net download results to various servers give me around 800kB/s

NOTE: UPLOAD SPEEDS ARE PERFECT - ALL ABOVE 100kB/s ON ALL ISPS (WIFI AND LAN); Full Speed on Telkom ISP via WiFi (so that's not a typo). Also I have tested using the same servers on both phone and PC and got the same results.

Anyone have any ideas what is going on?

We've had one or two similar posts on our Uncapped thread, and we are definitely looking into this very seriously. However our own tests on stand-alone lines are not showing similar results. We will continue to test and monitor this to determine if there is any issue affecting DSL clients. Judging by the volume of complaints, this does not seem to be the general case for all our clients international service.

Drop me a PM and let's get your details so we can also run some tests with you. The more information we have from different sources, the quicker we can isolate and neutralise any possible issues.
