It is generally plagued by crime, criminal elements, little or no protection for players, uncontrolled exposure of children and others vulnerable people to gambling and a host of other negative factors.
Criminal factors are huge and not generally plagued. I work in Fraud and Collusion on the poker side of things for European based casinos and deal with fraud everyday.
Generally players don't get ripped off, cos players dump dodgy funds to one another. In exceptions, you'll get players using stolen credit cards and trying to double up on legit players.
As for children - would they not have to steal daddy's credit card to play online? Then the problem would not be with the casino - rather something in the household 1st....but anyway thats drifting off on a totally other tangent and apologies if my view is somewhat simplistic there (haven't really thought this through)
As for Derivco, they only handle the logistics of gaming and keeping the network up and running. They lost people with the US law, but I think this bill is meant to regulate online casino's nationally.
Derivco's major source of income is not within SA. Only 3Piggs and Piggs Peak is handled by Derivco - so national regulations are not gonna impact that much.
The US bill cost alot of people their jobs. This bill would only "hopefully" be a way with which government can hope to fight against crime. Oh and line their pockets with more money!
