Internet options in Oakdene? Telkom is jerking me around!

Hey guys,

I'm at my wits end here, and don't know where else to turn. I moved into a new development in Oakdene (JHB South) a few months back and placed an order for a new ADSL line. Each week I've been calling in, waiting an hour on the line each time to follow up on the progress, only to be jerked around by excuses ranging from "no ports" to "building hasn't been completed yet (which I can only assume means my complex as it was only recently completed)". Whenever I ask what is being done, and when it will be done by, they obviously don't know the answer to that.

So fsck 'em. I really need internet access and am sick of using my phone as a wireless hotspot. Does anyone know of any good options available? They tried to sell me LTE with 10GB + 10GB for R400-odd but I'm not interested as the usage limit is way too low.

Basically looking at:
- Decent cap (around 100GB or more)
- Willing to consider uncapped if the QoS is good
- Speed not too important, can do with 2Mbps for now
- Decent latency for gaming
- Support for a home network environment (Ethernet + WiFi) as I'll have multiple devices connecting
- Willing to consider wireless
- Is some kind of fibre option available?

Thanks

Bump :(

Can someone please help? Anyone in JHB South? Getting really desperate here. Doesn't seem like I'm in the coverage area for NeoBroadband Wireless either according to their map.

Bump!

I'm desperate. Anything will do for now. Even some 20GB or 50GB per month mobile deal, or something. What's out there?

The South doesn't get too much attention from telco operators. My telkom line can only sync maximum 2Mbs. And there a no other real options. Signal from Vodacom, MTN and Cell C are all patchy.

Nobody has come forward with any fibre to the home options either.

I reckon you stuck mate, with Telkom, their mobile data prices are not too bad.

Already PM'd the oke from BitCo about a month ago. He asked to provide my address so he can check for previous installations, and whether there would be LOS. Never heard back from him. Seems like they don't want the business...

Been reading this thread below after the earlier post on this thread about bitco.

Last few pages show that things are not up to scratch, there are issues

Yes, also interested.

Sorry been in touch with ph4t3 via PM.

Basically I ended up with Neotel uncapped. It's a 24 month contract but the cancellation fee is only R1,000.

Can also confirm Afrihost and Telkom LTE availability.

In any event these are all temp measures because fibre is coming soon to the Balwin complexes...
