A nice big canister of pepperspray might get you in the least amount of trouble one that can spray a stream a good 10 meters or so.

screw that, in CPT pepper spray is only good to incapacitate yourself, nevermind the intruder.

Ag nee v 0 k...! A paintball marker is NOT even remotely adequate self defense. This has been discussed ad nauseam. If the aim is to irritate the intruder - rather play an Adele CD.

I disagree... Wife and I have MPL gas masks and tippmann markers with modified regulators. Two years ago our cameras alerted us to two guys trying to get in through the downstairs bathroom window.

With hoppers loaded with a mix of pepper and nylon balls, I went round the back and she covered me from above.
The one wildly fired 2 shots from a 9mm, and then dropped it when a nylon ball cracked his cheek bone at 600fps, and of course the ensuing barrage of mace and more nylon kept him down - going on to crack numerous ribs and breaking his left arm.

No charges laid. Self defence.

My point is, don't think a 9mm with 12 rounds in a panic situation is any better than a marker loaded with a mix of 200 non-lethal pepper and nylon rounds able to fire at ~10 a second. Especially if you have a gas mask and adequate cover.

Would you say the Tippman Pistol is as effective? Obviously the clip is limited and probably less power.

He said it wasn't for self defence

Even worse. From the FCA:

(6) It is an offence to point—
(a) any firearm, a muzzle loading firearm or an airgun, whether or not it is loaded or capable of being discharged, at any other person, without good reason to do so; or
(b) anything which is likely to lead a person to believe that it is a firearm, a muzzle loading firearm or an airgun at any other person, without good reason to do so.

So, pointing a paintball gun at someone can get you prosecuted under the Firearms Control Act.

When doing my firearm competancy, the instructors were adamant that the only "good reason to do so" which is acceptable, is self-defence (or defence of another person's life).

Finally, as was posted already, you shooting at someone else with your CO2 pistol might well be sufficient reason for them to kill you. If they can convince the court that they thought you're shooting at them with i.e. a silenced pistol, the judge will deem it as self-defence. So you'll be dead, and the worst that your killer will face is a trespassing charge.

Why stop at at a CO2 pistol might as well use a 9mm, 6 years according to the Oscar trial you should be out in 3.

Ya, but if you go that route, you have to invite the intruder in to use the toilet. What a schlep.

Sure. Never said it was a good idea. Just pointing out that the OP didn't want it for self defence, but to deal with petty theft from his garden.

Shoot them with a paintball gun. U also get solid ammo that works really well. 90% of the time the guy will run away with a broken face. But if he returns with police have u need to get your story straight.

eg. 'Huh I don't know this drunk guy never seen him before, What gun? I don't own any guns please come in and check.'
