Can anyone suggest something to me? I really need just basic inventory management, to be able to list all my stock and have items subtracted when I scan the barcode. I have had a brief look at a few free POS applications, but frankly they are not so simple to get to grips with. They all rely on databases and I have no experience with them so it makes it seem so complicated, and I don't think I have that much stock that I really need a database. Failing that does anyone know where I can learn (for free) at least some basics on databases so that maybe I can use this software.

The free apps that I have looked at so far:
Posper
Turbocash
UnicentaPOS
Odoo

TLDR. Do you know of some free (or reasonably priced) inventory management software that does not need a database?

It is highly unlikely that you would find such a piece of software of good quality that does not use a DB. I used Odoo for some of our accounting and it was really simple to install and setup.

Download https://bitnami.com/stack/odoo as a packaged up stack for your OS (Windows?). Just setup the username/passwords and other settings as you see fit. Google tutorials on how to use it but it really is self-explanatory.

This way, the DB and software is on one machine and you don't have to worry about learning how to configure it etc.

Odoo's brilliant but it requires that PosBox to your peripherals running well in its POS.

Rather get an old v3 TurboCash. Uses BDE which is not much of a database.:D

Haven't run it myself but suggested it to a few people a number of years ago and they did ok with it.

There's a decent channel for it if you need help but I've never used them.
