Ok I redid my calculations and a Sempron rig will come in at less than R2500 for the rig specific components. So that means I'll be able to just squeeze in another RX480.
Most motherboards only have 2 pci-e x16 slots so you'll need some powered pci-e x1 to x16 risers from ebay if your motherboard doesn't have open ended (very rare) pci-e slots. The powered ones have a USB cable connecting between them and a plug that goes into the sata connectors. The other ones look like an old IDE connector.
The alternative for the more adventurous that don't care about voiding warranties is to cut out the piece of plastic at the end of the slot so the card can fit in. I'd recommend the risers though as you can then fit the cards for better cooling.
The Sapphire 8GB RX480's are in short supply as they're R500 cheaper than the others. Other makes however are still plenty. I won't recommend anything else though.
No specs necessary really. Get the cheapest motherboard+cpu+memory combo (4GB should do) you can with enough pci-e x16 and x1 slots. If you go with 6 slots you'll ideally need a 1200W PSU. 4 slots you can go with 750W. Any newish HDD should do, an SSD is really overkill and limits your storage.Interested in joining as well.
@Swa I'm not all to clued up in hardware terminology. Can you PM specifications of your rig you planning, hardware, software and OS and any other links to getting started on Eth. I have some cash available, about R18k, to get me started on a decent rig. Could probably increase it by a few K.
