Investing in offshore etf's

I can only think the only reason to go offshore is security as returns aren't very good for any of the offshore products I have looked at. Even if emerging markets **** hits the fan, it will just mean being offshore protects you a bit from the fallout though that's no guarantee given what happened in '08. But the emerging market funds aren't doing all that better either.

Well the Rands shrink from R8 to almost R11 to the dollar means that I would have needed to have about 30% returns in SA just to break even.
Etf's promise +-10% returns. Ive just never invested in one overseas myself. So I was hoping that perhaps somebody had.
I'm planning to move over sooner or later, so I was looking for a way to get saving so long.

Promise? Surely you mean predict or forecast. There is certainly no promise.

You can get access to offshore ETFs on a number of local investment platforms.

It took a good couple of years for the Rand to go from R8 to R11. If your fund didn't manage to top 30% in that time, then you are in the wrong fund
