Hi all

I am trying to setup a remote access for a customer to an IP camera connected to his 3G router. It is a stand alone setup (no other devices connected to the router). I have internet access through the router.

I have setup a DDNS host with dns.com

Camera:
Milesight MS-C2682-P

Router
TP Link TL-MR3220

According to Vodacom, APN is allowed on the sim card

Please can anyone assist.

remember you cannot access the external (ddns) host from inside the network it points to.

Where have you got your DDNS client running? On the router or your PC?
If your PC, make sure its on all the time and updates (relatively) frequently. If on the router, you shouldn't have to worry.

On the router, you will need to look for "PORT FORWARDING" or "FIREWALL" settings and allow port x (you choose something) to be forwarded to the port and ip address of the camera on the internal network, ie:
INBOUND
IP: ANY Port 9999 to port 80 IP 192.168.1.10 Protocol TCP/UDP

This will route any incoming requests on domain.ddns.com:9999 to 192.168.1.10:80

That should do the trick :)

Hi Snowwolf.

I have setup all of the above. The updater is currently running (shows active and is updating) on my laptop that I have connected to the 3G router.

However, on another PC on another network, if I try to go to xxx.dyndns-ip.com:xxxx i am faced with a "This webpage is unavailable"

Could that be Dyn.com issue or vodacom issue?

Also, once device is setup, it will be dispatched to the client with only the camera connected to the router. The router will not be to run the updater. Any recommendations on a router, if required, that will need to do this?

Hie make sure you assign a static ip to the camera first on your tplink go to your Dynamic dns settings input your account info. Make sure your service provider is listed in the drop down list if not then this will not work. On your dns.com account you should have created your ip cam account e.g gbaywarrencam.dns.com I highly recommend using www.no-ip.com for dns. Viewing the cam is highly recommended u use the cam's app e.g for a Dahua dvr or ip cam on android you use a app downloaded from Playstore called gdmss on pc u use PSS it never lets u down. Go to port forwarding open your ports. U should be good to go.

What modem are you using with the tp link router ? If it is a hostless modem you will recive a local ip from the modem and not a public ip from your ISP port forwarding will never work with this setup. I currently have the same issue on my tp-link router and vodafone K4305 modem combination. You can see this below is the ip allocated to my router by the modem. Should be a 105.xx.xx.xx ip as i am with afrihost. So in essence the port forwarding needs to be done on the modem aswell but unfortunately there is no way of doing this.

Type: dhcp
Address: 192.168.9.100
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.9.1
DNS 1: 192.168.9.1
DNS 2: 192.168.9.1
Connected: 2d 20h 50m 15s
