iPad Air dead

My iPad Air is dead. Two hours ago it was working, now it's totally unresponsive. Didn't drop it or let it overheat. Or even feed it after midnight.

I tried the home screen/sleep/awake button double hold thing. Tried plugging it in, hoping that the battery had just mysteriously drained itself but no Apple logo, no drained battery indicator (even after I left it plugged in for a half hour). Still frustratingly dead.

I was browsing the threads and couldn't see any recent posts about the problem, but I'm assuming I'm sitting with a hardware issue.

Bought the iPad through Takealot on 11/11/14. Their returns policies is 6 months so, great, I just missed that boat by a couple of days. But what's the Apple warranty? I read something about being able to check using the serial number. Was going to take it to the Apple store this afternoon but a colleague recommended iFix. Thoughts? Suggestions?

So much for that Apple quality.

Apple store is probably your best hope.

Apple warranty is a year afaik.

How long did you hold the sleep and home buttons in for? More than 10 seconds?

Did you try connecting it to the computer?

When you connect it to your pc does iTunes pick it up?

Before taking it in try a dfu mode restore. That's only possible if iTunes is picking up the device when connected.

Nope.

Looks like I'm taking a trip to the store.

Yeah, looks like it's a hardware failure.

I would try putting it into dfu mode anyway, just for good measure.

Connect the pad to a pc, open iTunes, then put it into DFU mode by doing the following:

Hold sleep button and count to 3

Continue holding sleep button and hold home button and count to 10

Release sleep button but continue holding home button and wait for iTunes to acknowledge a device connected in recovery mode, could be a 5 sec wait, could be a 30 sec wait.

It's a long shot but that works for me and DFU mode.

Achieving DFU mode is sometimes a tricky process. We think we have it but we sometimes don't. Using the above method you will achieve DFU mode 9/10 times...

You can verify warranty details here.

IMO iPads don't die. My 2010 iPad 1 is still used to this day as a spare iPad for my kid; it works; no OS updates granted but it works well to this day.

I've only ever had my iPhone 4S do that once, ie it's bricked for no apparent reason. An ex boss had a similar experience too.. Just completely dead with an iPhone 5.

In both cases we just left it charging, tried power and home and kinda gave up on it. Then, it just kinda worked again just prior to taking it to the istore and never happen again (parents have the device).

Looking at the sand_man post, we did something similar in retrospect so maybe that why it lives again
