iPad Air launched in SA, trade-in offered

Wait, this doesn't make sense...

On contract, the base price (before trade-in discount) of the 16GB iPad Air Wi-Fi on Vodacom MyGig 1 is R379 per month.

Went to the store this morning before opening and when the staff arrived they showed me the spreadsheet of model quantities available in SA today. No wifi only models.

Odd. You think the base model would be the most popular one and hence they would have stock.

I believe it should be the wifi+3G base model (16g) that will be the most popular?

Don't have any sales numbers but checking with the office around me, 80%+ ipads (16gb) here have cellular, none have the wifi only model...

Wifi only models not popular in South Africa. Overseas, with plenty of wifi hotspots it is a more viable option.

Yep I had a wifi only ipad 2 once but I battled to sell it because everybody wanted 3g also.

I bought the 3g iPad 3 because I thought I would need it. Think I've maybe used it twice in a year and a half. I'm either always near wifi or use my phone as a wifi hotspot.

That's the way most south africans think and the reason why the demand for the 3G version is higher.

Yep I bought the 3G one pre iphone hotspot. Since then I've never used the 3G function. Quite frankly I don't see the point. Everyone has a phone so just tether it or use one of the bazillion hotspots round the world.
