iPhone 4 vs SG2

Thanks Centronix. Valuable input there.

Kingrob, uncapped and jailbroken, No issues there.

Elimentals thanks for highlighting those cons. Really appreciate that. This is really a tough decision.

Any any opinions on the A4 vs the dual core of the SG2?

Hardware is fickle, the real choice is in the OS; both are very capable and the choice really comes down to what aspects of the OS you deem important.
For me it's apps and consistency, hence iOS.

Once you've made an investment in either platform it's very unlikely you'll move to the opposing platform -- especially without a significant difference / benefit. Fundamentally there's so far nothing worth making a change...

I hope to be surprised soon.

I'll agree with [)roi(]

Where your choice lies is with the OS and Ecosystem and maybe the body or size of the screen, to compare CPU and memory specs makes no sense.

Yes you correct the body and size are also important aspects, for me the Android phones are too big; whereas many deem that to be a benefit.

Interesting. Thanks guys.

Seems I will be tending towards an iPhone, although the Samsung is cheaper... :P ARGH

Rofl.

Please elaborate.

I've had my Desire for 2 years and I'm not quite sure what you mean by annoying?

The weakest part of that phone was the limited space for apps.

Now I got the RAZR so that's no longer an issue.

Desire HD here. It was fun to play with, all the apps etc. But annoying in the sense of, if I want to do something I had to really WORK at it whereas with the iPhone 4S I just simply hit a button and I'm either swapping inbetween apps as I reply on SMS/WhatsApp/Mxit/Skype/MSN, check the weather/notifications or if I want to use the camera without going through the motions I just hit the home button twice, not even flinching to unlock the phone first.

That and battery life. The Desire HD never lasted as long as the iPhone (even when I had the iPhone 3G, no, not the 3GS)

Might as well tell the dude to get a Blackberry then

Like me, smaller than 4" and I find it a pain to touch type ;)

Granted the trend is to go bigger but like you I have my limits and the new 4.6" + just makes no sense. Oh an there are Androids with even smaller screens than Apple's 3.5" so its not all Androids that have large screens, but thats not part of the iPhone vs SGS2 spectrum.

I currently have a Torch. Don't like how slow it is, and how crappy the battery life is.

Either way you'll be happy... With Android make sure you select a phone that will be getting the ICS (Icecream Sandwich) upgrade... Yes it's a tough decision, but honestly either way you'll be happy both as I said both are very capable.

Unfortunately none of the smaller Androids are any good, generally crappy hardware and old OS versions. I just can't fathom what people see in the really large stuff, for example: Samsung Galaxy Note -- its a costly choice when you have to buy clothes with bigger pockets... jokes ;)

I beg to differ!

Got myself a HTC Wildfire S as a backup phone & love it!!

It has a 3.2" display, running Gingerbread 2.3.5 with HTC Sense 2.1 - cash price for it hovers around the R3000 mark.

One of my best buys for 2011.

Ok I guess there are exceptions, but has ICS been guaranteed for it. If not then my point stands.

I didnt get the phone for ICS compatibility, but rather for the crystal clear call quality. ;).

When I got the phone, I already knew that it wont be getting ICS & couldnt care less about it. :)

I am not trying to find fault with your decision, but rather stating another reason I personally don't have an Android phone I.e. generally too big, no fundamental benefits over iOS, less consistent in the Ui, less app diversity -- each of these points are personal preferences, for example: some people love bigger phones, and the flexibility of the Ui, ...
Nothing wrong with that... Great to have more than one solid phone OS

Thats why I didnt bother with another iphone.

After iOS 4.2.1, support for my R8500 iphone 3G was suddenly dropped.

Same is already happening with iphone 4 owners, Apple released Siri & now they're out of luck.

So now your reason does not look valid anymore.

*Oh, and then there is the dreaded itunes. The less said, the better.

Sorry but upgradeability is a bad example, so too itunes. Glad you happy with your choice, doesn't mean mine is wrong.

Funny enough in Android's attempt to fix this issue ie: ICS they removed one of my biggest positives in Android. With 2+ I could apply themes using MIUI and it would go right trough to all my apps and make them all use my theme of choice now with ICS all the Apps looks like ICS and my theme only gets applied to the launcher :(

That argument can go both ways as apps that I use on a regular basis is not allowed on iOS and can only be found on Android for Example Anti

Anyway like you say both have there merits. Also your choice is not permanent, you can always swap over to the other side as for every user like me that swapped over from iPhone to Android you will find one that switched from Android to iPhone.

I'm sure that's temporary... Given enough time themes will be adapted.

Yes definetly not indebted for life in anything, but the reason to change must be compelling -- nothing like this exists on either side.

Sorry if I misunderstood your statement, cos ICS is the upgrade for Gingerbread.

If you are happy with your phone, then you've made the right choice. ;)
