iPhone 5 nano SIM in South Africa

Vodacom said that they have no details about the nano SIM at this stage, but explained that they will let subscribers know as soon as they hear more about the issue.

I'm sorry but for a Cellular giant to have "no details", who will fill us in "once they hear more about the issue", I find this funny.

Maybe it's just me but I thought SIMs played a big part in oh, I don't know... actually using their voice/data services?
Somehow I just picture their CEO reading up on nano SIMs on Wikipedia right now

The iPhone 5 specs were only made public a day ago. No one, apart from Apple, knew what to expect, so you can forgive the operators for being unbeknown to the obscure technical design and requirements of Apple's new device.

Surely there is a "Body of standards" of some sort that work with Apple and other manufacturers or Cellular Providers to create new SIM form specifications?

I mean, Apple don't make SIMs, surely they must be working with the company that designs/manufactures and sells the SIM cards to operators

Micro SIM, too mainstream for the Apple hipsters.

When smaller sims were made why were they not made the size of the nano sim to begin with. It was completely possible from the start as each is just a cutout of the larger ones. Also remember the original sim was the size of a credit card that fit in you phone.

so how did these guys get it right?

According to media reports many international mobile operators, including Vodafone, are already stocking up on nano-SIMs to prepare for iPhone 5 sales.

Doesn't seem like much of an issue - snip snip and there you go.

Im sure some dudes will still be able to cut up the normal sim to nano the same way they cut it to micro size now.

MTN said that it “will not respond to any iPhone 5 related media enquiries, if there is any development in this space, we will make an official announcement.”

Guess if thats MTN attitude around the iPhone 5 then they probably still trying to work out an excuse why they wont be stocking it!!

If you think they're bitching about the nano-sim .. wait till they figure out the new connector doesn't fit their existing accessories.

Again, stop lying in title - "iPhone 5 nano SIM in South Africa" - and then you go on to explain that nobody knows when we will be getting them
