Hellkom shows the above special - available at Vodacom World Metro till 8/3/15 apparently - but how in the world do i confirm it or apply? There's no link provided, and i couldn't find this deal myself. Does anyone know if this is correct, and would applicant have to sign/collect in person ['cos i'm in durbs :( ]

Also, if anyone knows of a 5s deal below R350 please post here. Would prefer a 32GB, what with Apple removing the app-size limit recently. Thanks in advance guys!

Awesome, thank you. Think i'll go for the Smartplan 50 at R299

Did you take this on Telkom Mobile?, i have a few question?
Did you sign up on the website?
How long did it take to deliver?,
Do they require any paperwork like last 6 months pay slips, proof of address and that crap?

Takes 2-3 days, once your application is approved

AFAIK its just ID + Proof of Address with copies for the courier. Everything else is checked by their people. Which means they gotta be very thorough when they call you back (sameday) - set aside about 15min for the phone interview.

NB: TM's Smartplan 50/100 is billed per minute. OOB is a flat-rate of R1.50/min.
MTN's offer was therefore more cost-effective, but they are out of stock. Comparison here.

Sweet,
Thanks, just ordered mine, i'm not going to use the minutes, probably give the sim to my mother or someone, This phone is R8000 new, it works me out R7200 if i get it via telkom. i really wanted to wait until the end of the year when the iphone 6 got cheaper, but I cannot go on working on this POS android phone. It frustrates the hell out of me.

You have my sympathy. You'll love the 5s, as good as the 6 and a better size IMO (one handed use).
Thanks :p
I had the normal 5, I won’t lie the battery sucked big time, and I found it a little small. But my biggest mistake was moving to android, and i have tried multiple android devices, its simply rubbish compared to IOS, so I’ll take the smaller screen and crappy battery life any day of the week compared to this worthless unoptimized android pos OS
I almost missed an interview because google maps decided it does not feel like working, even after an re-installtion. There is not a single feature on this phone that runs flawlessly, i think the only app which has not crashed at one point or another is 9Gag.
Sometimes when you type a messages to fast it just freezes for 2 -3 seconds, as if to tell me to slow down, my 4 cores can’t handle all this, yesterday i called someone, after the call finished i could not disconnect the call, you could click anywhere on the screen it simply refused to do anything, I had to restart the phone....
My current phone is a Huawei P6, it comes with Dolby sound which really sounds good, but while listening to music the Dolby feature just turns off randomly by itself....., sometimes listening to music the song will also just stop for no apparent reason.
MyBB app crashes all the time, SuperBru i have to open twice before it actually opens, then the camera, I can focus on a picture, it displays 100%, until i press to take the picture and then it’s completely out of focus, WTF....
When Google maps does decide to work, it takes +- 1minute to open…

I prefer the P6 to my previous S4, but all honesty both are equally crap, I honestly cannot believe so many people on this forum rants about how much better android is, or how they can live with a phone that never really works 100%, then attack someone as soon as they prefer IOS/Iphone.....maybe we would just like something that we pay a bucket load of cash for to WORK.

NEVER in my life will I use a android device again, NEVER.
Well unless maybe if they scratch the entire OS and start from scratch. When an OS lags/freezes on a device with 4 -8 cores and 2gb ram, While WP/IOS runs smooth as silk on devices with 2 cores and 1gb ram, you have to know something is not right.

Hilarious and baffling at the same time, isn't it? Android should be left for entry and mid range phones. A less fragmented version is imperative for high end phones, and I believe we will see it one day if Android or the manufacturers want to compete with iOS/Apple.

If you weren't happy with battery life on the 5, have you considered getting a 6 through FNB? Or if you have cash on hand, a second hand one?

I bank with ABSA so no FNB, and dont have +-R7000 cash.....
But reading the reviews the 5s battery lasts longer than the 5, in that case i'll be happy.

Im really excited now :D, hope they don't take ages to approve
