iPhone 7 is out for me due to no audio jack - what do I do now?

I don't want to have a long debate about the pros and cons of no audio jack, suffice it to say that Apple has excluded the audio jack and that is a deal breaker for me personally.

I have only had iPhones since 2007. I imported the 1st gen model into SA because it never launched here, I have only had iPhones since (I once bought an Experia but it only lasted a month or two...)

I don't want to hate on Apple for this move - it's their thing but this is where I get off this particular ride.

My question is: what is the most 'iPhone like' phone that has an audio jack? I know that it will be Android, I'm at peace with this (almost) but I'd like something sleek with a great build quality and good features.

So Samsung is out, ugly ass phones the lot of them.

I'm considering the Huwaei P9. Any other ideas?

Upgrade due in three months.

If you are looking for solid build quality then go for LG.

One of the Sony flagships?

I'm still happy with my 2 year old Z3C

Interface is pretty close to standard Android (I don't like the Samsung tweaks and UI either).

I got the Huawei P9 about two weeks ago and it's way better than I expected, beautifully built and the Camera is fantastic, don't have a single bad thing to say about it. :)

I would say get the onePlusOne 3. if you are ok with importing things. its a risk though.
alternatively the HTC ten, but local support is lacking.

the S7 is the next on the list as its a solid phone with great build quality.

I would not say the G5 makes the list, but the V20 might. but wait on that for when full reviews are out.

3 months is quite a long time, there is a new version of Nexus phones coming out soon, there are upgrades to a few models coming out.

your upgrade is also in december, and in feb the new LG and Samsung devices come out. not saying wait, but do not rush.

as a side note the P9 is a great phone and has convinced a lot of people to swich. do not overlook it due to its low price tag.

headphones will still work through lightning port if you really really really want a cable -- and will come with an adapter from 3.5mm

what the problem is?????????:whistling:

This still means that the signal is digital until this (ostensibly) cheap convertor. Is there a DAC in there? WTF is that thing doing to my lossless signal chain? Are they going to try and introduce DRM by going digital all the way to the earphones?

The answers to these questions can only result in a debate on the pros and cons of no audio jack and that is expressly what I'd like to avoid.

I'm hoping that this thread will be helpful to people like me who have little to no knowledge about other non-iPhone smartphones but for whatever reason now find themselves shopping for one.

My Experia screen shattered in my pocket. I hadn't been ding anything weird, I just took it out of my pocket one day and the screen was cracked all over.

I had the screen replaced and tried to sell it but the sim card got stuck in the slot and I tugged it gently which tore out the pins. Paperweight with a brand new R2k screen.

No thanks.

Exactly the same thing happened to mine. Had it repaired and then sat on the fscking thing a month later.

Anyway, I am moving back to iOS after being on Android for just over a year. The 7 is still far away from me so haven't put to much effort into checking what the implications of not having a sound jack are.

I honestly think that for the vast majority of people it will be fine. Apple with have done their homework, it wont matter - to most.

I have an expensive system in my car that I use daily and built part of myself which requires an audio jack. I have specialist sound equipment from the 70s and 80s at home that require an audio jack. I'm obviously in the clear minority but to me, these things are very important.

In point of fact: I'd love to get an iPhone 7, it simply will not satisfy my requirements for a phone though. I'd have to have that and a secondary device for audio playback... just like when I had a Razr and an iPod Video. I don't want to carry two devices, the iPhone solved that problem for me years ago.

Next best after Samsung is Huawei.
The Mate 8 would be something to consider.
Stay the fck away from Sony and HTC. A cellphone called an LG is just wrong.

You're better off getting a Xiaomi. The Mi5 has a very solid build, but I would go for Note 3.

weird little thing.

since I got my bone conducting headset I never use the headphone jack on my LG G4 anymore.

but we get it. you need an audio jack. there is no debating.

Right now, the options for upgrade are quite limited. as I pointed out earlier. best advice is to wait and really look closer to the time.

This adapter thingy, does it mean one also cannot charge the 7 and use a wired audio device simultaneously?

If your system is so fancy why are you using the iphone's built-in DAC. If you were using an aftermarket DAC then the lightning to 3.5mm dongle shouldn't be an issue.
I think you're just trying to create problems where there are no problems.
