How often does that happen irl? Got a few at the office and all are in one piece.

I'd go with a P9. Huawei's interface is the closest you'll get to iPhones and they're great phones.

Just remember it will never be as close to an iPhone as you may want though...

Probably not all that often. I could theoretically see it happening if you sit on it, or wear skinny jeans with too small pockets.
I linked to that video because OP broke an Xperia, and specifically mentioned he wants great build quality.

Been using BT headphones for over a year now, so may actually get this as my upgrade.

Using the s7 edge now and it's a sleek phone that's fast and looks great.

Was debating between this and one plus, but the edge has better camera waterproof and expandable storage.

If you don't like TW then load another launcher.

Have a look at it

I honestly think that for the vast majority of people it will be fine. Apple with have done their homework, it wont matter - to most.

I have an expensive system in my car that I use daily and built part of myself which requires an audio jack. I have specialist sound equipment from the 70s and 80s at home that require an audio jack. I'm obviously in the clear minority but to me, these things are very important.

In point of fact: I'd love to get an iPhone 7, it simply will not satisfy my requirements for a phone though. I'd have to have that and a secondary device for audio playback... just like when I had a Razr and an iPod Video. I don't want to carry two devices, the iPhone solved that problem for me years ago.

Huh? Why not just use the adapter that comes with it?

This still means that the signal is digital until this (ostensibly) cheap convertor. Is there a DAC in there? WTF is that thing doing to my lossless signal chain? Are they going to try and introduce DRM by going digital all the way to the earphones?

The answers to these questions can only result in a debate on the pros and cons of no audio jack and that is expressly what I'd like to avoid.

I'm hoping that this thread will be helpful to people like me who have little to no knowledge about other non-iPhone smartphones but for whatever reason now find themselves shopping for one.

You wouldn't need that horrible thing.

Apple puts a much smaller, nicer one in the box with the phone.

There will always be a DAC. Just like on your current iPhone because...speakers are analog.

You are looking for a problem here that doesn't exist.

The quality of the iPhone 7 with adaptor will not be any different than the iPhone 6S or any other iPhone before it.

If anything it will be better.

And if you really can't live with a new phone that used an adapter to offer you EXACTLY the same experience as before...then simply keep your old iPhone around for music.

This is such a non problem it's laughable and seems largely rooted in ignorance.

OP, it does come with regular earpods and an adapter, so whats the issue?

Only thing I can think of is that you cannot charge and have your earpods on at the same time. I'm sure there will be thirdparty adapters that will allow you to that.

  1. Phone
  2. Headphone charging box thing
  3. Left headphone
  4. Right headphone

Definitely rooted in ignorance, one of the main things I'm personally ignorant of is what the plans are regarding DRM in these all digital solutions. I'd also like more information about what kind of processing is in the signal chain, I know for instance that the iPhone 6 has a midrange DAC (Cirrus Logic 338S1201) that isn't capable of High Def audio. The new one - is it better or worse?

In essence Apple has taken a widely used, known standard and replaced something expensive, cumbersome and unknown.

I think everyone deserves a better explanation than "courage" because "courage" sounds more like BS than bitrate.

It is a known standard...has been for a few years now.

How is it expensive? It's been there since the iPhone 5.

And no idea how it can be unknown.

How about waiting it out for the real details to emerge before jumping the gun.

I love how a simple question has turned into a 4 page debate 100% against what the first post talks about.

ifanboys, get the message, he is done with your coolaid. move on.

one day you will all also see you are being ripped off.

for now the point of this thread is not to talk about WHY he is leaving apple, and if it is a valid reason or not, it is simply that he IS leaving apple and wants to know what options are out there.

Is it an open standard that doesn't require licensing fees?

What are you on about? You moan the iPhone 7 has no 3.5mm jack, so I assume you use a wired headset? Plug the stupid adapter on your headset cable. When you roll the cable up it won't make a difference now will it? It seems people think this adapter is 100cm long, 20cm wide and weighs 1kg.

Get the same Adapter for your car and connect it to your existing 3.5mm cable.

Your list above refers to the wireless airpods. The iPhone 7 doesn't come standard with them. It comes with a pair of wired ones with the lightning connection including the adapter if you want to use any other headset.

I'm sorry that my desire for an audio jack has upset so many people.

This was certainly not my intention, at the same time, I can't just buy an iPhone 7 because you want me to.

Also: Mother of god this is getting nutty.

BTW: looks like the P9 is the direction I'm going to go.
