iPhone vs Samsung prices in South Africa from 2011 to 2021

The prices of flagship smartphones from Apple and Samsung continually rose between 2011 and 2021 in South Africa, an analysis of the top-end devices released in the past ten years by MyBroadband has revealed.

While some of this constant price escalation was driven by the manufacturers themselves, the weak rand has also been a significant factor in driving up smartphone prices in South Africa.

Whereas in the past flagship smartphone releases introduced two models at most, launches in the last five years often saw more models released onto the market.

The four iPhone 12 models launched last year are an example of this.

Without the Chinese players, we'd be screwed. And even they're not above the price gouging.

Yeah stupid prices xD
Years ago they sat in their offices making market predictions based on the success of 'their' new innovations.
They forgot to keep innovating. Now they are selling same **** different prices xD
Their business models are done for.

Would be cool to have the USD price and USD to ZAR exchange rate for each of those

For the amount of changes that have occured over the last 3 or 4 years, the pricing is unjustified.
However supply and demand is justifying this. People are prepared to pay for some reason.

Mybroadband needs to start using better visualizations more. This article would have been nice if you plotted the prices over the years. You can also easily put the name of the phone as a label in the scatter plot. The chart would easily show that Apple has been consistently above Samsung. However, Apple appears to be tapering off, while Samsung is still on the rise.
