More likely is they won't be having the elections at this time of the year again. I don't think unless there are some terror issue we will host ipl again.

What I think will happen is the champions league tournament will switch between countries. SA,Aus and NZ are also looking at their own IPL concept, were they will get the money to compete with india I have no idea. They need big money for this because without the big name international players it will fail. The big names is why IPL is successful.

I heard that if it's a success they are taking it all over the world in the coming years.

What I have heard is that the IPL might be hosted in india and then every 3rd or forth year it travels to another country. Good idea IMO.

Yeah also have no idea where they will get the $$$ to compete with the indian sponsors.

They'll have to somehow resist the inherent urge most SA businesses suffer from and not charge 10x more for the tickets . . . unless they want empty stadiums.

+1 :(

I heard that they are considering hosting it in SA every second year.

I think that will be a mistake rather host it in a different country every 2de year.

A lot of people only went cause they thought it would be a once of thing.

I doubt it will come back... if there are problems again in India and they forced to move, theyll go to England or Aus before they come back...

But it was good for SA, I think they said it was the highest ticket sales in the country!! Cheap tickets = big crowds!:)

Well i don't know about all the other people, but my reasons for going was (it being once off did not really made a diff):

1. Tickets were cheap at R50 and R70 [semi finals] it's more value than a Movie.
2. The game format + time schedules were right : Pro20 is short and fast paced and the times were 16h30 - 20h30 . So anyone could easily hop in after work and still be at home in time for regular home stuff ;)
3. Big names, great players and well good cricket ....each team had about 4 international players [of which 1-2 were top south african players] .

The only pet peeve i had was the empty pavilions on Supersport Park, i don't know how the tickets were managed and whether it's season-ticket holders or massive pre-bookings or what, but it did kinda look silly. The grass was stacked full to the brink and then you look at the pavilions and it's empty....yet all tickets were sold out if you try to book on the pavilions. The grass was pretty fun anyhow, but it would've been nice if at least they would fill it up with people who actually want to watch the game at some stage...

...nothing like seeing a mexican wave continuously die on the pavilions because there's no one there1 ;)

Tell me about it - we paid r25 for the grass and r50 for the stands.

Lol, yeah must say Centurions grand stand was a bit empty :(

But about 75% of the people I know wont go to 3-4 games again if the IPL would be here every year / every second year.

Once off things are way more attractive and a lot of people that don't even really care for the game of cricket bought tickets and enjoyed their day.

Yes in those one - horse towns they actually still work in pounds and shillings.... :p

We had horses until you hill-folk confused them for cows, carved them up, and sold them as "T-Bones" to some of your "finest" eateries.

We make do with BMW, Audi, and Mercedes now but still live in fear you might try to eat them too.

The success of the tournament , apart from good venues, support etc. was the fact that organizers just kept it simple.

I mean all the strategies and flow charts and marketing talk in the world for the Confed Cup, does not compare with a basic IPL parade or radio ad or telly ad or billboard.

The 2010 LOC needs to cut the frills and planning and stick to the basics of promoting an event.

No they won't. India and SA cricket boards are very good friends. It was India who in 1991/1992 proposed to the ICC that we come back into the international fold in time for the world cup in aus. When there was the issue with the icc match referee and tendulkar, where the match ref charged him with ball tampering without clear evidence SA backed the Indians.

India is our biggest ally in cricket.

You weren't allowed to buy those tickets only pavilion block I and A were H available and for the semi's none. Those blocks were allocated to the suite holders who had to move for the ipl hot shots. And being little girls they chose not to attend most of the games. If they had put those seats up for sale people would buy it.
