Lucky the Royal Navy had the Type 23 frigate nearby.

The type 45 Destroyers generally can't sail there because the water is too hot.

I'm sure nothing to do with luck but elaborate on this warm water issue, that sounds interesting.

This pic is from the BBC.

If that ship can turn like that at the speed suggested by the bow wave, the Type 23 is probably OK.

Iran wants a war. On land it's not bad. It's hoping Russia and China will follow. Putin would love a war, but China knows they will be isolated. Their military isn't that advanced yet, and they have neighbours that's not too friendly with them. ie Vietnam has defeated both them and America in War, S.Korea is at constant alert, Japan well is strong, but they would die for the Emperor. (he is their God). Taiwan has a vicious army too, so does Singapore (trained and armed by Israel). So China may think twice. Everyone has more modernized weapons than them, and even Kim knows it from N.Korea. However China isn't one to want to go to war, currently they are growing fast financially, and if all that stops due to war, it will be really bad for them.

Iran doesn't have a navy. They ordered fancy knew US ships but the new year the Iranian Revolution happened, and well all those ships are now part of the US navy. So on sea, they only have some battle boats. (Seems like the GLA from Command and Conquer). On land they are pretty good though, and they have defeated Iraq before. Remember also they are Shiite and the rest are mainly Sunni in the area. So they don't like one another.

So Iran may hope that Putin joins in. It will be chaos for Europe as most of their energy comes from Russian gas. They may try to sue for peace and not fight. And Putin may want this too. Remember he was in charge in Berlin when the Berlin wall fell, and saw his great soviet empire fall apart around him.

It's going to be interesting.

Israel may flatten Iran first, aided by Saudi and the other gulf nations. They are a lot more supportive of Israel as their local superpower lately. Make friends now, become enemies later. Also Israel is one of the big military gear suppliers in the area. And before the Iranian revolution, supplied weapons to Iran.

It's going to be a real mess there. Face it, if war happens, I wouldn't want to be in the UAE.
