Great now they can just swap Britain for their own tanker back and everyone goes home happy, no need to start WW3

The government's emergency committee, Cobra, is meeting in Whitehall to discuss the incident.
That organisation sounds like it comes out of a Hollywood spy movie.

That makes more sense. I would imagine all UK ships would have a military escort after Iran warned they will take a UK ship. If it is UK owned how would the Iranians know this. They must have used their intelligence to find out.

Does make retaliation for the UK difficult if the ship flied the Liberian flag but it is unclear at this stage what flag it flew.

Or I think maybe this ship is also a small ship so it didn't warrant a military escort.

The previous one was just a small shitty old ship. This one not sure what the size the 2nd one taken is. The Iranian oil tanker the British seized was a huge ship. No way the Iranians would be happy with the 1st one they seized if you weight up in in worth against their own ship taken.

The British operated, Liberian-flagged ship, the MESDAR, has been allowed to continue its course after Iranian officials followed up with the ship on its environmental regulations, according semi-official Iranian news agency TASNIM, citing Iranian military officials in the Persian Gulf.

According to MarineTraffic.com, the MESDAR has picked up speed in the last few minutes and is now headed in a western direction into the Gulf, instead of north to Iran. .

The ship has left Iranian waters, according to semi-official Iranian news agency MEHR.

Another one: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-49225916
Iran has seized another foreign tanker in the Gulf, Iranian state media say.

State TV quoted by Reuters said the Revolutionary Guard Corps' naval forces had "seized a foreign tanker in the Persian Gulf that was smuggling fuel for some Arab countries".

It said the tanker was carrying 700,000l of fuel, adding that seven sailors had been detained.
BTW, that amount is rather small for a tanker...

P.S. Isn't it time to update the title?

A Saudi prince posted on Twitter Thursday that Saudi Arabia’s military could destroy Iran in eight hours if they wanted to.

Prince Abdullah bin Sultan bin Nasser Al-Saud tweeted a video on Thursday that showed some of the Gulf kingdom’s F-15 warplanes in comparison to Iran’s F-4 Phantom jets
So now we know who the real warmongers are.
As for their claims. They've been struggling to defeat a small group of rebels in Yemen

lets not forget who supplies them with the weapons that gives them the capability to destroy Iran in 8 hours

and yes they have been struggling to defeat a small group of rebels in Yemen, but at huge cost to those in Yemen
