The long-suffering US taxpayer has been fleeced again:

A 'fraud' bigger than Madoff

In what could turn out to be the greatest fraud in US history, American authorities have started to investigate the alleged role of senior military officers in the misuse of $125bn (£88bn) in a US-directed effort to reconstruct Iraq after the fall of Saddam Hussein. The exact sum missing may never be clear, but a report by the US Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction (SIGIR) suggests it may exceed $50bn, making it an even bigger theft than Bernard Madoff's notorious Ponzi scheme.
more.

(Note for kneejerkers: This war has cost US taxpayers several hundred billion dollars. Definitely no oil - Iraqis keeps every cent. No gold. Nada. And now their aid is being ripped off by their own people. Time for The Second American Revolution.)

You mean American companies are ripping off their own people aka SA style. No, don't delude yourself  One of the things the US does with invasion, and this i must say is damn funny in the grad scheme of things, is after blowing the **** up of country.. start providing 'aid' and re-development aid to 'assist' them.

Of cause there is a lot political arm twisting that is pushed e.g. support etc for those who will pass laws that break the nationalization of the oil resources and allow more foreign companies to come in and rape their lands of oil with lesser direct benefits for their country. It is the 'American' way of saying you poor when you are in fact quite rich and more than able to sustain yourself. Iraq has the 2nd largest reserves btw.

Incidentally.. watch what happens with Gaza, Gaza aid and their gas reserves off the coast

How much was the total of the aid given?

This is not the first time something like this has come up. Also it's The Independent which has as much credibility as if Osama himself had written this article
