Is 8ta 60GB + 60GB worth it?

Hi

I live in Kommetjie, Cape Town. I was going to install ADSL with Telkom but was then told that there were no more ADSL ports in the area, whatever that means.

Anyway, I have an 8ta dongle and there is coverage for this in my area. I'm considering going for the 60GB + 60GB package. I have some questions though.

I purchased 100megs on the dongle to see if 8ta works in my area, and it does, as already mentioned.

However, after browsing a few web pages such as Facebook, Yahoo and Gmail the 100 megs was gone within 30 minutes.

Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced excessive bandwidth consumption with 8ta when compared with other networks?

I am using windows 8.1 though, which might also be a factor. Slightly off topic but any tips to reduce bandwidth usage from windows 8.1?

Secondly do you guys leave your 8ta dongle plugged in continuously or do you unplug it when you're finished using internet?

In summary I just want to know if the excessive bandwidth usage is 8ta itself stealing from customers or is it more likely due to Windows 8.1.

Please post your experiences, thanks.

You probably just notice the data being used more with only 100mb. I had 8ta for a while and there was never any data used that was unaccounted for (except once or twice when they made a mistake with something). You use the same amount of data to browse those sites whether you've got ADSL or 3g. If you want to game online - 3g isn't so great for that. I don't have any windows 8 apps or widgets enabled - so can't help you there. Maybe your antivirus was updating?

If the speeds in your area are good it's worth it. Until naked ADSL appears I'm also still using 3g.

I have 8ta 10+10 dongle that I use in a wifi router at home. It used to be only 10g any time and never used more than 7g even with some active downloading. After 8ta introduced the 10+10 promo which I converted to, I reached my cap twice by the 18th of the month without any active dowloading. This month I still have cap at the moment. So yes I was wondering about this too, whether since the promo things have changed?. I never switch the wifi off.

I'm loving the TM 60+60MB bundle. Much better than Cell C's speeds.

I'm on my 3rd bundle already. Lasts me about 10 months. Was hoping that they drop the price a bit, but it is still value for money.

Hi liam

Telkom Mobile offer the best Mobile data offering which is stable and operational working around the clock with an accurate account system in place(bandwidth), back in the days you would experience hiccups problems but that's not in the last.

Recommendation: Disable windows 8.1 updates, sometimes these updates can account to 80 meg of bandwidth consumption or more.

2. Facebook uses a lot of data if you are viewing images and videos. Disable images in your browser that way no images will load and only text.

3.Gmail when viewing an email and attachment(images, pdf etc) that will definitely consume data.

4. YouTube - Stay away from that website that your bandwidth will be depleted probably just by viewing 1 video or 2.

5. Download an application that tracks your download usage and where all that available bandwidth is going (example downloading updates for 8.1,downkoadinf from a website. You can view a report of your usage on a specific say.

I have no complaints whatsoever with the go big 120 gig deal, just shop around for your airtime if you wanna save R50,purchase your airtime from pep. R100 Voucher sales for R95..

Always the Representative on here is helpful and does follow ups on your case number if it hasn't been resolved.

I have an LTE router which I leave on 24/7 and happy to report haven't experience any bandwidth theft or excessive unusual behaviors. Only on 1 occasion whereby a device connect to the router and firmware was updated automatically..

Pros: Works as it should if you within the coverage.

Cons: always have a redundancy a backup like afrihost mobile in case Telkom Mobile base station goes down for maintenance.

3 consecutive year using the go big 120 gig(loaded 5 go big) , have saved thousands on Rand. On line rental which is around R160 X 12..
