Very bad idea...

As a first car, get something sensible. Don't buy a speed machine. They cost money to maintain and your insurance will have you crying. And don't mod cars. Especially not if you have it on Hire-purchase. Wait for it to be paid in full...
Not really a speed machine. As for mods, I agree with you.

My advice, is no. You dont mention your age either, but I guess you are pretty young. Insurance will kill you.

I nearly made this mistake.

If this is your first car and you are under 35.

Do not buy anything over a 1.9 liter engine car - insurance will murder you.

Also, Scoobs require a fair bit of maintenance

LoL this comment. It's slow now, is it?
//For those out of the loop, Mr Mike foamed at the mouth and nearly had a epileptic fit when I said the 86 was slow a few years ago when he purchased one.
Compared to an STI, yes it is. In general, I still maintain that it isn't for what it was...

If I was in charge of the world people wouldn't be allowed anything more powerful than a Morris Minor until you had at least 5 years of clean driving record.

Evening all,

As per my previous post: Title:"Is a Subaru a good choice for a first ever car?"
I am a 20year old looking for my first car wondering if a Subaru is a good choice.

With regards to the previous post:
I agree with everyone mentioning not to swap. It's not a sensible way to go financially and power wise. It does require quite a bit of modifications to get a lot of power out of these engines. That is true.

I am not looking to buy the car and outright mod it. No that couldn't be furthest from my plan. My thoughts were to buy the car and 1 or 2 years down the line, to upgrade it ever so slightly to increase power(mild mods ecu, exhaust etc)
I am not infatuated with just buying a car and modifying it at the outset, I don't have that particular mindset.

I want to have a stock car up to 2 years.
I hope to achieve a fairly modded car 5 or 6 years after my first car(that is if my plans don't change and life is good to me).

My focus and goals are my career, education, experience and footing in life as you know how difficult it is to have a steady job in SA without the proper qualifications, experience and contacts. I hope to have this part of my life stable before attempting to enter the 'Car life'

I want to keep the car(Hawkeye Impreza 2.0R) stock for 2 years. And then change ecu, exhaust, suspension, rims because I dont want a stock car for longer than the duration mentioned above.

I have been considering other cars as a first car, but these particular cars to keep it stock until I sell it because I only want to mod the subaru)

-Opel Astra 2.0
-Camry
-Conquest
-Audi A3

What is your opinion on buying the 07 Hawkeye Impreza 2.0R keep it stock for two years. With mild mods after the 2 year mark but not serious mods as I would sell the car after 8 or 9 years most likely.
I want my first car to be fun in two years time not boring and dull. Which is why I'm thinking about the 2.0R

Let know what are your thoughts and opinions about this. And if you have any recommendations for a suitable car for me I would dearly appreciate it. I will add it to my list if I consider it.

Thank you

tl;dr
I am a 20year old looking for my first car wondering if a Subaru is a good choice. And as well as other cars

I understand you are still getting to grips with the forum, next time just continue in the original thread, no need to create a knew one since the topic is still the same.
