Is a VPN necessary for torrenting in SA?

Hi all, I torrent a lot of content that is geo blocked such as anime that is not available locally. Now I know South Africa doesn't crack down on torrenting but I currently have fibre with supersonic on the vumatel infrastructure and for the past year my public ip address has remained static and never changes.

Now I am wondering if I should look into using a vpn for torrenting as I am worried that my static ip could end up being flagged or blacklisted. Any insight into torrenting from SA and the potential risks would be appreciated?

Guess it all depends how's often and how much.

If you going to be doing 1Tb , 24x7x365 at 50-100mpbs I would take care.

A few 10s of GBs here and there , no sweat.

My media server is running NordVPN via OpenVPN. I tunnel all external communication via NordVPN nothing touches my "ISP IP" even updates on my media server go through it. No complaints from my ISP so far.

Years ago a former colleague got flagged by Sony Entertainment and local authorities tracked the download to my then employer.

He was fired.

It depends how much and what you download I suppose.

Downloading GoT episode after episode as it was released is not something I would recommend. Would rather wait a bit and then download all at once for example - and for something that popular still through a VPN, at least while it's "hot property".
