EMail from IS account manager

"We have picked up a few issues on some of the Uncapped ADSL users because of Telkom upgrading certain exchanges to 4mbps.

Some of the exchanges are not handling the additional load and therefore Telkom has been downgrading the clients back to their normal speed, or so they think….

We have picked up on 2 clients already who are supposed to either be on 512k or 1024k that have been downgraded to 384k.

Please keep this in mind should you have issues with clients."

So let me get this streight, the exchange cant handle all the 4mb/s.

/me thinks that was the intention all along, get lots of people to update to 4mb/s, claim they cant handle it and it was only a test, downgrade then to 1mb/s (that feels like 192k) and charge then if they want to drop back to the origornal speed.

Nice one!

Well telcum how have lots of 1mb/s hostages and will demand a ransom to release them.

Realisticly, Telcum still have about 1 year to out do NeoTel.

The only light i see is that Mobile Number Portability (MNP) also extends to fixed line opperator(s), my concern is that Telcum have everything to loose and nothing to gain, unlike the Cellphone opperators. Now the MNP for Cellphones has been postponed, what do you think will happen with fixed line?

in how many years from now?

I wouldnt bank on anything too soon, they admit that Telkoms prices are way too high, however they also say they dont want to start a price war.
ie. They are going to rake us for our hard earned cash (just like Telkom) until they have enough money to do something about the high cost of telecoms in SA - well i hope at least, or they could do a CellC and just rake us for good.

well - i was one of these unlucky people - was on a sorta stable 1024 line - then upped to 4096 - but hell - could never get a stable connection - had 60-80 loss of sync per day.

opened a special investigation with telkom - they came out to inspect lines - changed ports on exchange ect...

nope - ...i was "forced" back to 512 - because 1024 had been "scrapped"..

and not just normal 512 (640/384) - but (512/256)..

and most of all - i receive a bill for 3 and a half weeks of using 1024 service - while i'm already back at 512..

"sorry sir , your line quality is just too bad" ....why do i pay line rent?.

swak.
