clive, the problem is, everyone is reporting "multi threaded" download speeds, which isn't a valid test IMO
I too get K-A-K speeds, and I'm on 256K, I get on avg 2KB/s with a single thread download, but If i push that up i can get up to 16KB/s..still not 32KB/s but better than 2KB/s

I don't know what's happening re speeds, I have just downloaded a 2.4MB file (using windows save as - not a downloader) from of my servers in the USA and got peaks of 14.2kB/s and total average of 12.6kB/s

I am very happy with this kind of performance!

It's because Sentech is no longer using Internet Solutions (IS) for their international feed.
(This change took place about a week ago)

The CEO of Sentech put pressure on the Government .... who put pressure on Telkom ... who finally had to capitulate
to provide Sentech with an international feed, at the wholesale (discounted) price.
(This agreement was concluded months ago... so don't know why it has taken so long)

Well whatever they did, it's brilliant! Hope things in Durbs are going well - will visit there again in 2 weeks or so, so PLEASE don't blame me again for sucking all your bandwidth

everyone gets around 16kb/s at the moment I reckon, this is unfair to 256/512k users and hopefully will change soon. I reckon the reason why they're ignoring the higher packages is because there is an abundance of 128k users out there, thus, keeping the bulk happy is far easier for them at this moment in time.

This weekend, yes multi threaded, I got around 35-50kb/s This didn't last. At least they gave me credit for October as I insisted they do because I already paid for September and been having this issue for longer than a month now.

I'll stick with them for a while though... up and till iburst releases. The customer relations are appauling, and because iburst does not look government owned, they should be perceived as to have SOME customer relation, or else you're out of business.

But that all you guys know already :p

and it appears they still use IS, maybe they only switched the 128k users over to telkom?

tracert goes through IS

other users are on 128, i'm on 512

like I mentioned, maybe they switched the 128 users onto the telkom bandwidth and left the 256/512 users capped @ 16kb/s on the IS backbone...

noone, it could well be. I was told that the move over was "almost" complete whatever that means?

edit - I hope so. Things are indeed looking up here in Durban if that
is any indication of things to come. But I'm still not going
to consider re-activating my account at this point.
I still need convincing that Sentech management are really serious this time.

does this move mean they have more bandwidth and my speed will be back?

I'm still not seeing the improvement. It's probably like noone say. Sentech is making the bulk (read 128k users) happy by giving them bandwidth, and is using the minority (read 256k/512k users)'s money to do so.

I'm on 128 and I don't see any improvement. I'm currently getting less then 3KB/s on an international d/l. Traceroute confirms IS.

I've been getting good connectivity for about 3 days in a row now - some kinda record. Currently downloading from mozilla at 13k per second, averaging 10k per second int. on a 128k

It's not always like this of course, this is the longest run of good connectivity I've had since April.

OK... some clarity.
I'm told that ONLY the outbound MW traffic is going via Internet Solutions.
The initial source of the Inbound traffic terminates at BT - British Telecom.
(I presume they are using Telkom's SAT3 as well as Satellite)???
Also, their main feed has been increased to 25Mb/s

I'm not seeing a drop of that extra 25Mb/s

256K crawling at 2KB/s [:(]

On my 128k package, done while streaming audio at 21 Kbps (which I know will give an inaccurate result) at dslreports speakeasy servers speed test

2004-10-06 17:08:40 EST: 31 / 19
Your download speed : 31801 bps, or 31 kbps.
A 3.8 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 19579 bps, or 19 kbps.

and without the stream runing

2004-10-06 17:11:31 EST: 42 / 20
Your download speed : 43528 bps, or 42 kbps.
A 5.3 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 21244 bps, or 20 kbps.

RCVW at 100000, TTL at 32 and MTU set at 1458

MyWireless is FLYING today - the fastest speed I have yet had (On my 128k package).

Using 4 sessions on DownloadPlus

Local: used the following link and got 14.3kB/s (12.31MB file in 14mins 20secs)
http://www.unreal.co.za/files/other/IPW_CD.Zip

And from one of my USA based servers, got 13.3kB/s on an 8MB file

WELL DONE SENTECH! Please let it stay this way
