An anual lease on a flat is due to expire and to renew the Agent wants R1,200 for admin. This will be then on top of whatever the landlord increases the rent by which could be up to 10%. There is no admin at all really. Is this normal? It is no different to a new lease so might as well look for a new place given that the rent is also going to go up.

I also get charged for this R1000 odd. They did not even send me new lease or called me to renew it. They just increased price and charge me renewal fee lol

Luckily buying my own place finally.

They are scum, and will charge for whatever they can, while at the same time expertly find reasons why everything is your fault.
This is only possible with a market that is regulated by the State.

Because State regulation masquerades as consumer protection, meanwhile it is de facto supplier protection (from open competition).

Sorry, this scam has been going on too long and across so many industries.

It's time the average consumer woke up. Otherwise it will be considered a case of fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.

This has got fokol to do with the state. They are doing this all on their own.

They are scammy because they are regulated? As opposed to other service providers and businesses which aren't?
In general the protocol looks like this the more govt regulated, the less you have to please customers in that sector.

Happy to take any questions.

They - the regulators and their favored suppliers - have been scamming their way to a free lunch at the expense of the average, unsuspecting cuck-huis SAn consumer.

Sorry... that's the truth.

You are naive and taking it up the rear end if you still think you live in a free market.

Whatever my man. I'll change what I said.

Estate agents are scum because they are regulated. Unlike the scummy mechanic down the street, who is not regulated.

Well, can the mechanic open his shop without govt approval i.e. being exposed to the next guy who has a financial/profit motive to take his business by offering a better deal/experience?

They tell you that licensure protects you from bad market actors. They don't tell you that govt regulation takes the place of voting with your feet alone, and what impact that has on existing suppliers and, in particular, their attitude to customers.

These are real world facts I'm bringing to your attention. Not some airy fairy govt approved Marxist economics professors, making excuses, who are paid by the govt-protected business class.

Indeed, plumbers too.

Government regulation doesn't mean anything for me, but people are scummy all on their own.

To the degree you are being ripped off by profession X, Y or Z, is the degree to which there is a profit incentive by new entrants to come in and make your life less painful.

Look at the unemployment rate in SA.

Why are they not coming to take a huge bite out of the free lunch your exploiters are enjoying at your expense?

Why are they virtually unopposed?

Many may find it surprising to hear of stories where street vendors are hounded off the streets for daring to serve their communities without govt permission i.e. a govt license.

Back to the point, and straight anders only please.

They are scummy as a result of regulation?

Not surprised at all. Happens all the time. Greedy retailers don't want ANY competition, and the small guy are easy pickings.

Remember that guy who had a food stall, all registered, legal. Only to get fked by Rocomamas over a burger name.

Here we go again.

I want service but I don't want to pay for it.

Please go open your own business and start doing stuff for free, lets see how that goes.

I doubt the op is complaining about there being a fee but that it’s R1200 for something that takes 10min to sign and complete.

Hang on, so the street vendor needs govt permission to serve his community - no questions asked.

But the plumber doesn't?
