There is no official register of organ donors in South Africa. Once you complete this section, your details will be added to the ODF's database and you will need to discuss your decision with your family. South Africa has a system called 'required consent' which means that your family will still have to give written consent for organ donation to take place. Please discuss the decision with your family.

Steps your family needs to take to ensure your wishes are carried out:


1. Speak to the medical professional's attending to your loved one - physician, ICU & trauma unit nurse, neurologist etc

2. Inform them of your wishes

3. Ask for contact details of the closest transplant centre

4. Or call the Organ Donor Foundation Toll Free Line 0800 22 66 11 for assistance

Thought that being a donor would qualify one for a 'free' burial too, but apparently not. Anyway, my wife has instructions NOT to claim my body, should I perish anywhere that is not home. I'm dead, who gives a ratt's arse?

one of my friends here at work recently registered, and it seemed pretty straight forward....

I will donate my organs once I've perished. Whilst my lungs suck in air and my heart pumps blood, my liver stays inside of my body.
