We're still a long way away from a fast, unshaped and uncapped broadband connection that costs less than R1000...
This drives me nuts. Even half of R1000 is still lagging what is available and possible. R200/month for uncapped minimum 8mbps is where our thinking should be, otherwise we're still lagging.

Catch 22?

The Big players wont reduce their costs because we buy what they sell, they'll only reduce their prices a bit if another Big player reduces their prices a bit.

We buy what they sell because theres nothing else around, if we stop buying they'll stop selling.

We'll have to dance to their tune until prices gradually decline to something that can compare to international broadband prices. Only thing that can save us now is Government intervention...and you can see how well thats going...

If Neotel would come out with what their exact plans are it would just be plain stupid.
Taking Telkom on in the fixed line area can only be done once the LLU is happening, or does anyone really think that Neotel should lay a parallel phone cable to your door, and in the end be cheaper than Telkom too?
With broadband, nothing much can be done until the SAT-3 issues are resolved and probably not even until at least one new undersea cable is working.
Until then, Neotel is quite right to keep their powder dry. Grandstanding will achieve nothing, on the contrary, it will make life much more difficult for them.
