I had a few Monza's and Astra's, they were good build. But now I fancy a grandland Opel. I was wondering about back up , price of parts, etc. a Local dealer is selling the stuff, with Peugeot and chana and cherry. And keeping the car for long. I suppose Opel is still German .

Opel has pretty bad resale value these days.
Its a pity because the more recent cars are really good.

New Corsa is pretty sexy though. First Corsa I'd ever say that about.

That it is and is feature packed for a relatively good price.

That said, OP, it's hard for me to make a fair comment as I believe I just ended up with a lemon car but when things go, they go in a big way. Warranty picked up everything that went wrong for me so money wise I wasn't out of pocket but the inconvenience is something that can bother a lot of people.

I would find out what infotainment system that is as well ( if you going for the latest models ) and perhaps see if you can get extended warranty for it or downgrade if not needed. My model came with the Navi 900 Intellilink. About a year ago ( a month outside the 3 year warranty ) the screen went faulty ( flashes on startup and gets pixelated in some places ). R32k to replace which obviously I did not do.

No, stay as far away as you can.

Grandland is a nice car, newer Opels are still German engineered and designed but they do share a lot of parts with PSA. That in it self is nothing new, even under GM they shared with PSA. Fiat and may other makers.

Yes, resale values are lower than other brands, but that is where you can score if you buy used. I picked up a nice Astra J in top level trim used for R170k a year ago. Way more car than you get in say a current model Corsa F which costs more than double the price.

My current Astra is the 5th Opel I have had and my 3rd Astra. If you look after these cars they will go a long way. I can say the same about the single Peugoet I have had the pleasure of owning, with the caveat - do not fit pirate pumps from China.

The Grandland X is based on the Peugeot 3008 and to my understanding wouldn't feature parts from when they were owned by GM. So parts should be readily available as they now have a huge warehouse in Midrand.

Pricing of parts you should be able to get this from the AA Kinsey report.

My old Superboss is still on the road in PTA, driven as a college ride by a family member. Roars like Grant getting kicked on his nutsack to this day.

Yes its a good car.

If you can find a decent 2nd hand example you should be able to get a good deal on one.

TBH, very few cars these days fall into the old category of general "lemons". Yes you will get specific examples that are bad, but in general most brands produce good cars and the models themselves are overall pretty decently built (except for the cheap shyte varieties models flooding our markets these days)

True, seems I am mistaken in saying it was still an Opel, I see it's PSA throughout. Still a good car regardless.

Eish, this doesn't look like an Opel anymore ...

With most my Opel's I could do a service (Oil, Plugs, filters) in 20min max :p

Starting with the Astra K the largest engine they can fit is a 1.6 while on my older 2015 J there is more room under the bonnet as they could go up to 2.0.

This is unfortunately how things are going with newer cars that have smaller blown engines.
