Is the stock Socket A Sempron Fan/Heatsink good enough for an Athlon?

Reason I ask is when I bought my old athlon 2100+, I was recommended a Thermaltake Volcano 7, which I found out later is for up to 2000+.

Wouldn't have thought there'd be much difference, between 2100+ and 2000+, but this thing is *LOUD*.

It literally sounds like a hairdryer.

I have the stock heatsink from a Sempron socket A cpu though, so I thought I'd use that, just not sure if it's the same used for the athlons or not, or if it would be good enough...

Would have thought someone would know the answer, anyway I found a Sempron and Athlon to compare:

From what I can see they are pretty much the same, except the Athlon one has a funny plastic peice on top surrounding the fan.

If anyone know please reply, as I'd rather have some advice than just chucking it on.

I've interchanged Athlon XP and Sempron fans before. Only difference it seemed to make was that it was quieter with the Sempron fan. Didn't run it for all that long tho: maybe 2 weeks. Still, in those 2 weeks, the PC was used quite extensively (general browsing, office applications and gaming), and there wasn't any heat issue.

Oh, but I wasn't overclocking. Are you?

if you can get the coolmaster cp5 8jd1f ol is one of the best soc a unit - failing that get a good solid unit with a copper core and put on the fan that the Gigabyte cases use

OK thanks for the responses.

I'm not planning to OC, but I might see what I can get out of it with stock cooling.

Also, I don't really want to buy any new coolers, I want a new system! So I wouldn't waste money on a cooler right now. I'll check out how much that one you (DragonLogos) recommended costs though.

EDIT:

Got round to trying this, removed my Sempron heatsink and found the main difference is that the Athlon one has an embedded copper peice but the Sempron doesn't. So the Athlon one should have better cooling.

Using the Sempron cooler with an Athlon seems okay though.
