Is there a maximum number of email recipients with WebAfrica?

Hey guys.

I have a domain/website/email package with WebAfrica (Windows Business Elite), and emails fail to send if the number of recipients is more than about 20 (or somewhere near there).

I used to remember sending emails out to friends (jokes, pics, etc) by just selecting my entire address book, and adding them to the TO or BCC fields of the email message, and the email would send with no problems.

Nowadays I have to do it batches of about 20. If I exceed this amount the email fails to send. I would prefer to send a single email to everyone, but now I have to send 3 or 4 emails, all with the exact same content.

Any ideas why this is happening? I am using the SMTP server provided by WebAfrica (smtp.mydomain.co.za which is just an alias for one of WebAfrica's own SMTP servers).

I do have other Gmail addresses, but don't bulk send with this one, as I don't want everybody to have this address. So I can't really test it.

I know there's a max limit of 20 on Telkom SAIX SMTP servers.

I would imagine WA would have a limit to prevent abuse of their SMTP server and to get you to sign up for their MailFire bulk mailing product.

Hi ToxicWazte,

There is a limit of 25 recipients per mail as well as a limit of 300 mails per hour from an individual domain.
This is set across the board on all hosting packages offered at Web Africa. You can read up more information on mail restrictions from our Knowledge Base.

Could you also please advise as to what the exact error message you are receiving when trying to send mail?

I hope this answers your question.

Thanks for the prompt response Jeff! Wasn't expecting it.

Outlook 2007 gives me the following error message:
Task 'xxx@xxx.co.za - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP). The server responded: 421 Too many bad commands, closing transmission channel'

I read the KB article you posted above. Thanks.

Is there no alternative solution?

Hi ToxicWazte,

This error message can be related to a few things, namely:

* You are not connected to the Internet or a network, or your mail server is temporarily unavailable.
* Your account settings are incorrect.
* Your user profile in Outlook is damaged.
* An e-mail item on your POP3 server is damaged.
* The configuration of your AV software is incorrect.
* Outlook Express was removed from the computer or the installation is damaged.
* The configuration of your personal firewall software is incorrect.

If you wouldn't mind, could you perhaps log a support ticket in regards to this? We would require the following information:

From Address
To Address
Date sent/received
SMTP Being Used

It will be a lot easier handling this via support ticket, as posting sensative information on a public forum is never such a good idea :p
You can mail us at support@webafrica.co.za.
