192k is hardly broadband and it's nothing to brag about when iburst is still flying along for me at +1mbps most of the time.

True, although I would not qualify the offering from WBS as broadband either as "Always on (24/7), high-speed, unshaped, internet connection" just doesn't seem to be connection they sold me and without being picky, "most of the time" is just not good enough considering how little we get, for how much we pay, in comparison to decent world standards. I don't think any of us in SA should be boasting that their bicyle is faster than your bicyle while trying to perform on a F1 racetrack.

Can't expect much better service in sa and we all know that, and I am certainly not bragging but just pointing to noone since he seems to get great pleasure out of the problems that some ibursters are having.

And yes I would rather have "most the time " iburst at 1mbps than 192k dsl.

yeah 1mbit for half a day is better than 192 for a week (i'm not saying iburst only works for half a day), and braodband isn't defined as "Always on (24/7), high-speed, unshaped, internet connection".

noone, go learn to speak English properly

OH NOOOZ, you made a typo mr. Englishman. broadband not braodband.. Yoda says: For pointing finger, laughing are.. For making typing, retarded you be.

From now on, everyone will be forced to properly spell broadband as braodband since the master englishman just said so.

You lack the creativity of an intelligent conversation Slimothy. I actually meant that he should ask you, since he is having obvious problems.

i was waiting for users to be all uncapped to see how the speeds would be... and obviously not that good... i think wbs is skimping on international bw costs... only explanation i have unless wbs has something a bit more detailed?

i think its contention and the fact they did core maintenence at the same time we were uncapped, that first night it was fast, then it slowed down the following day but that night it was fast, my connection is normal today but you never know how it will be even an hour from now.

Not just international for me - my iBurst's local speeds are also jittery & pages keep getting stuck [I'm not downloading stuff yet this month - just queueing stuff in ReGet & will start all the paused downloads when/if iBurst improves a bit]...

Its weird, the more i read about people complaining about slow speeds the better my connection seems to get. To the Clever Heads here is it possible that Durban is routed differently into the core network and is thus bypassing a local bottle neck?

Bandwidth Reports speed test.
Your download speed : 658998 bps, or 643 kbps.
A 80.4 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 149803 bps, or 146 kbps.

i dont think theres a bottleneck at the network level I think its more at the tower level with contention or misconfiguration, also be carefull when reading these posts, you know how it is with wireless, you'll complain about slow speeds in the morning and get 1.3Mbit in the afternoon

IMO it's a combination of base-station contention, and WBS "Transparent" Proxy server running out of diskspace or shaping or something else equally bizarre...one thing is certain - WBS do not regard this as a problem for customers since there is still no incident report...plenty from 2005-06-30 about Pretoria & Cape Town, but typically nothing about this problem specifically...

thats a bit weird because the transparent proxy has terrabytes of space according to shaun green and is flushed on a regular basis (24 hour intervals) and I fail to see how a transparent http proxy would slow down every protocol on the internet, but I don't know maybe you're right ic, maybe they got the squid source and hacked it to make it cache every type of traffic, and i could be wrong but i think theres no incident report because it either falls under part of a previous incident (core maintenence) or because it was the first day of the month and everyone was fighting for bandwidth.

well my connection has been mainly stable today as well, but i do get the distinct feeling that the network aint happy... it's one of those lets wait and see... i really hope wbs manage to sort the stuff out.
