Hi forum (dates corrected courtesy atomcrusher)
No sarcasm and no bitterness. Just the (corrected) truth.
My Novatel U740 card died during a firmware flash. I wasn't impatient, it just didn't work after the process. It still looked healthy in the device manager, but had lost its EMEI, poor thing, and the log indicated errors. So it would not dial out.
I had obtained it under great stress from the Incredible Connection at the Pavilion during the free 3G/HSDPA swap plan, so I took it back there in all of its packaging glory, and didn't go into details, just said "It doesn't work". 2 days later I get a call from the tech saying their laptop sees the card fine. "Can you dial out?", I say. "We don't have a simcard, so we can't dial out" he says, "Can I bring in my card so they can check it?". Great: I take him my SIM card and the next day he says yes, he can't dial out either; he is sending the card to Vodacom for repair. Repair! I ask you. Whatever.
The next day I wanted to download some stuff (now on GPRS) so I went back to get my SIM card. But now the original techie is on leave and the card is still there! (Friday 29th September). I phone on the Tuesday (3rd October) and get told the card left for Vodacare (maybe should be Vodacouldn'tcare) on Monday (2nd October) and maybe it will be ready by Thursday, I phone on the Thursday (5th October) and get blown off, I phone on Monday (9th October) and no, nothing yet. Finally they phone me yesterday (10th October) and tell me my card is ready.
Now I wasn't real happy about this service experience, but hey, got a new card, so eventually, life can continue. But then I see a BIG sticker on the replacement card "48-HOUR TAT". Then I look on the job card from Voda-don't-care and see that the card was received on the 4th and despatched on the 9th.
So, let's count: 5,6,7,8,9=5 days = 120hours! How is that 48 hours?
All told, including all the Incredible bungling, I was without my HSDPA card from the 26th of September until the 10th of October, a grand total of 14 days, and plenty of lost bandwidth.
So, dear Vodacom, is that service? When I signed the contract I was up and running in under 4 hours.
Please perhaps tell me how I can do things differently to get the 48-HOUR TAT that is prominently displayed on the replacement parts?
Grrrrrrrr.
