Is Twitter "free" on MTN?

A colleague who is on MTN has a notification on screen when browsing Twitter. Reads that Twitter is "free" on MTN. Is this legit?

Is all content downloaded (images/video etc) for gratis?

Legit yes. Free to browse but your data allocation will go towards downloads.

I think so yes.
