I have recently thought despite all its flaws to go to Adsl until i get signal for MW. This is what dear telkom tells me i have to do. First convert my isdn line to a normal exchange line (R375.00). Then apply for Adsl and wait for about a month using a 56K dial up connection, then when i get to the top of the list pay R404.00 for the teccky to come back and install adsl. If after a few months i want my "old" line back when i finaly get a MW signal then i will have to pay another R404 to uninstall the Adsl. I have searched the telkom site and nowhere can i find any suggestion of these uninstall costs. The call center bloke tells me that they cant uninstall isdn and install adsl at the same time as that means there are two job no. for one line and the computer wont let that happen!! I am sure many of you guys went through a similar process is this what you went through??? Any Ideas??

Some ideas.

1. If you are not already a smoker, start smoking. (to alleviate stress)
2. Tins of tomato soup for those long nights when the withdrawal symptoms are at their worst.
3. Ask your wife if she remembers all her pms outbreaks and say "It's payback time."
4. Take out a R1000 contract at a video store near you and see if you can finish it before the end of the month. Next month pick another video store.
5. Make effigies of Telkom employees and sacrifice one every night.

If you take these precautions the three months it will take to do this conversion should fly past.

Of course I don't look busy.....I did it right the first time.

Either what they told you is bogus, or Telkom have changed the way they do things.

I had my home and office ISDN upgraded to ADSL all at once. The tech takes off the ISDN box and puts in a normal jack and you have DSL (they do some work at the exchange first).

Hi Andre.

Then consider yourself lucky. I have been through the same pain as Dave is headed for. They told me that it is now two departments and the techie who does the ISDN uninstall cannot install the ADSL. And yes it was two order numbers, in fact it was three, the downgrade of the ISDN line to a normal line, the splitting off of the line as I have two other phones on my property(that what I was told anyway), and the ADSL installation. To get these three departments to arrive at my place in the correct order was nightmare in itself, the first hint I had of this sequencing problem was when the guy arrived to "split the line" and told me he cannot as it is still an ISDN line and he doesn't work on ISDN lines. After numerous phone calls to the dispatch centre discovered said downgrade has to happen prior to the line switch, split, manipulation or whatever you want to call it.

Oh, btw Dave.

6. Surgically attach cell phone to your ear facilitates doing other things while "All our operators are cureently busy..........important........elevator music........" follow up calls.

Of course I don't look busy.....I did it right the first time.
