South African networks can't cut data prices while load-shedding rages

South African Internet service providers say government’s concern about the cost to communicate must consider the impact of regular power cuts on the cost of providing connectivity and Internet access.

President Cyril Ramaphosa’s administration declared South Africa’s ongoing electricity supply crunch a national disaster earlier this year.

Forget the networks, why not take one logical step back and target the municipalities and Eskom that still bills consumers and still increases prices. Surely, there should be credit for non-availability of electricity.

The network argument is a sound one - take nothing away from it. But we seem to be distracted by the real problem, which is electricity supply.

Problem is not electricity supply - problem is corruption, that is limiting electricity supply.
