Are their discernable differences in speed between the various ISP's? Just joined WebAfrica and seem to be a lot slower than on my previous ISP.
Thanks

THere's some global slowdown - prob not your ISP.

Takes me while just to open the pages from myAdsl. There's been mention about this on other parts of the forum as well.

There are speed related differences depending on which backbone you using i.e. UUNET/VERIZON, Internet Solutions, SAIX etc.

But...As far as I know there is no way an ISP can slow down your speed or increase it. Speed mostly relies on your line capability, i.e. 192k, 384k etc. The line determines your speed and the account provides the bandwidth. ISP's provide the accounts and Telkom provides the line. If you are having speed related issues, its best to get your line checked through Telkom(0800 375 375). However if its the account that is giving you hastles perhaps check to make sure you have bandwidth available, or if you gaming, try the unshaped accounts if your latency is the prob. :)

Hi. Thanks for the replies. Its seems to have come right, as I'm getting very good speed again. Some of the local sites where slow earlier, just as I activated my new account, but it was merely coincedental! Must say the service so far with WebAfrica is exceptional.
