Israel and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to normalise relations, US President Donald Trump has announced.

A joint statement by Mr Trump, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed Al Nahyan said they hoped the "historic breakthrough will advance peace in the Middle East".

As a result, they added, Israel would suspend its plans to annex large parts of the occupied West Bank.

Until now Israel has had no diplomatic relations with Gulf Arab countries

However, shared concerns over Iran's regional influence have led to unofficial contacts between them.

So, is it back to hostilities if Iran decides to behave?

Nice to see some movement forward, but not sure how good this is for the Palestinians...

However, cracks in the deal became quickly apparent after its announcement on Thursday, with Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, saying there was “no change” to his annexation plans, while the UAE insisted that it “immediately stops annexation”.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a televised address Thursday that he remains "committed to annexing parts of the West Bank," but agreed to “temporarily suspend” those plans in order to reach a normalization deal with the UAE.

So normalize relations with the UAE then carry on in a year's time....?

Anything that erodes this "Palestine" place, is good in my book. "Palestinians", whoever they are, are already complaining that this normalises what Israel is "doing against them".

No doubt that Orange Dotard will be claiming that he brokered the deal, and expect demand his Noble Peace Prize.

Taking yet more land away from the Palestinians and reducing their hopes of a resolution to this is not the way to encourage peaceful co-operation in the future. People who can see no future for a better life do desperate things, marginalizing them, even more, will drive more people towards violence.

The only reason why Palestine hasn't done the reasonable thing and stopped the violence is because of Hamas and their stupid jihad against Israel. Violence works for them, they can do whatever they want to Israel, but if Israel does anything, oh lordy lord.

You cannot negotiate with terrorists. This is why Israel getting diplomatic ties to Palestine's historical allies is the only way the situation will actually resolve. Cut off most of their funding and support and they have to come to the table elsewise someone else will.
