Let people believe what they want, secondly freedom of religion is protected under the constitution in many countries.

If it's my belief that gingers turn into vampires when they die how exactly does that affect the lives of gingers?

...so is homosexuality. Yes, he has freedom of religion but that doesn't mean he can practice his religion anywhere he wants to.

Is he stopping anybody from being homosexual? Does his belief that sinners go to hell actually impact sinners lives? No.

If he stood at the pulpit in church saying exactly what he did and someone recorded it I highly doubt the outcome would have been any different.

He isn't being stopped from believing what he wants, though?

He was sanctioned for actions that violated the terms of his employment contract.

Was also offered a downgrade of the sanction, which would have made it a warning basically, if he removed the post and committed to not posting similar stuff on social media in future. He refused.

Isn't that exactly his argument - he was fired for his religious beliefs? Surely expecting him to keep his beliefs private is akin to expecting a gay (or any, for that matter) person to keep their sexuality private

It probably is, and it's no wonder he lost his hearing, and he'll likely lose the appeal, too. There are a lot of players (if not most) that are religious, especially Christian. I'm sure quite a number of them share his particular beliefs around homosexuals, too.

But he breached clauses 1.3 and 1.7 of the Player's Code of Conduct that he signed up to.

Commenting about your sexual orientation in public doesn't breach the Code of Conduct, which is why it doesn't warrant sanction.

Israel Folau: Rugby star's fundraiser shut down over anti-gay views

A controversial fundraising page set up by sacked Australian rugby player Israel Folau has been shut down for promoting the exclusion of LGBT people, website GoFundMe says.

Folau had his contract with Rugby Australia (RA) terminated in May after he said that "hell awaits" gay people.

He asked for public donations to help him with a legal fight against RA, arguing it dismissed him unlawfully.

GoFundMe said the page violated its rules. All donations will be refunded.

"As a company, we are absolutely committed to the fight for equality for LGBTIQ+ people and fostering an environment of inclusivity," said spokeswoman Nicola Britton.

"While we welcome GoFundMe's engaging in diverse civil debate, we do not tolerate the promotion of discrimination or exclusion."

Folau is a Christian who argues his contract termination was an act of religious discrimination.

He had received about A$760,000 (£414,000; $530,000) in donations since the page was set up last week, Australian media reported.

The right move my GFM, as I posted earlier it seemed the campaign was against the TOS. I'm sure he'll find another platform to raise the money on though.

I think he will find it difficult to find a legit funding platform if GFM booted him.

He was really stupid for choosing a American tech company to fund raise considering the current climate going on there.

Yes he will if the fundraiser is in his own name. But if it is through a 3rd party like a Christian organisation then he would be able to.

The Australian Christian Lobby has launched a new fundraising page for Israel Folau and donated $100,000 to his legal efforts after his original page was deleted by GoFundMe.

Who cares if someone calls you whatever phobic this or bigot that. It is pure PC BS from dimwitted snowflakes. Best way to deal with if these dcks harm you is to throw it back at them and just label THEM as bigots and phobes and proceed to demonetize their lives. Gloves off now, no more playing nice.

It looks like you have to be an Australian resident to donate as the first thing it asks for is your address, I somehow doubt he’s going to get 3 million (aus dollar I presume) from just Aus donations. GFM is a worldwide audience.

Don't underestimate religious folk. That in combination with the free press he is getting he will be able to hire the most expensive lawyers he wants. I am sure some church groups will also donate to his campaign anonymously directly into his bank account.

Israel Folau's new fundraising campaign has raised more money than his GoFundMe page in a day, with more than $1 million flooding in from donors.

The sacked Wallabies star had pledges totalling $1.24 million at 7.30pm on Tuesday after hundreds of donors emptied their pockets to help fund his legal fight against Rugby Australia.

The gofundme debacle seems to have lent credence to his argument that he is being discriminated against on religious grounds and fired up his supporters. He is nearing $1.5m in the first 24 hours

Cant just put in any ozzie address?

EDIT: It takes the ACL address of "4 Campion Street, Deakin ACT" dunno whether it will take your CC details...
