Israel’s attorney general has indicted Benjamin Netanyahu for bribery, fraud and breach of trust.

Avichai Mandelblit said on Thursday that the prime minister would be charged in all three major corruption cases for which he was investigated.

The dramatic announcement, the culmination of three years of inquiries, arrives at a fraught time for Israel’s longest-serving leader. Netanyahu is fighting for his political life after failing to secure a clear win in two elections this year.

The prime minister has denied all the allegations, saying they are part of a politically orchestrated “witch-hunt” to oust him from office.

 Today just got a whole lot better.

Benjamin Netanyahu's legal problems have plagued his last few years in office, causing him to focus increasingly on his political survival rather than on governing. They are also one of the reasons for the country's political paralysis.

Mr Netanyahu has been seeking new laws granting him immunity from prosecution. That was one of factors driving the country's last two elections, and one reason why there's been a deadlock in forming a coalition government.

It is not clear what this means for Mr Netanyahu's future. According to Israeli law, he can stay in office until the final verdict - but his political allies will have to decide whether to stick with him in ongoing coalition negotiations.

This is so sad. He's had a good run, but the right thing to do is let go now.

Only at the moment?

I don't follow it closely, but I use to about 20 years ago. The prime minister seems to always be elected based on taking the opposite stance to the incumbent when it comes to Palestine.

Current prime minister wants peace? Then campaign on more aggression against Palestine. Current prime minister is a war hawk? Then promise the people peace that everyone knows will never come.

and Olmert, the guy before Netanyahu's second stint as PM, already resigned due to widespread corruption allegations 10 years ago, seems Israeli politics have been a mess for a long while, this is just more of the same

We are on opposite sides of the political spectrum.
I dont honestly believe that the Palestinians want peace.
Yes there are the usual 'political promises; during the campaign but thats the world over.
Netanyahu has led Israel through a very prosperous time.

Ok so we can scrap rumors that the zionists are keeping Ben in power just to oppress the Palestinians, while in other news......

The leaders of Hamas, the Palestinian terror group ruling the Gaza Strip since 2007, seem to have hearts of stone regarding the suffering of the people living under their regime.
These leaders have no problem sending Palestinians to risk their lives near the border with Israel, while they and their families enjoy a comfortable life. More than 250 Palestinians have been killed and thousands injured in clashes with the Israel Defense Forces since the beginning of the Hamas-sponsored weekly protests near the Gaza-Israel border in March 2018.
While the protests are continuing and more Palestinians continue to put their lives at risk at the behest of the Hamas leadership, the terror group's senior officials are busy throwing lavish parties for their family members and upgrading their personal treasuries. It is as if the Hamas leaders were telling their people: Sacrifice yourself for the cause of destroying Israel and killing Jews so that we and our families can continue to live it up.
The latest example of this exploitation of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip surfaced in the form of a video of the birthday celebration of 20-year-old Mohammed, son of senior Hamas official Ghazi Hamad.
Hamad, a former deputy foreign minister in the Hamas government of 2012, currently serves as deputy minister in the Hamas-controlled Ministry for Social Welfare and is personally entrusted with overseeing aid to the most impoverished families in the Gaza Strip. Ironically, the man in charge of caring for the poorest families was caught on camera throwing a lavish birthday party for his son.

Shame, I guess the US really needs to send 3.3 billion dollars to Israel to keep the appearance of "only democracy in the ME" and "no no, it is not a racist state because it is a Jewish state".

once there is a critical mass amongst the global populace questioning the idea that governments can just grow their debt- which comes at the cost of the masses, I really doubt any nation state will last for much longer

The problem is the private banks and their control of money supply. It starts with BIS.

Surprised marine1 hasn't posted anything yet in response to the reports of the indictment.

Found him:

Watching Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attack the prosecutors who had just indicted him, watching him beg for compassion for his family’s suffering through years of corruption investigations, Tzion Hagag said he began to question whether the rule of law was really all that worth preserving if it could be so unfair to such a great man.

“We have the best prime minister in the world,” he said. “This democracy, what you call democratic — it’s killing our country. So let there be no democracy.”
