Israel is preparing to make history this Thursday, when it hopes to become the fourth nation to land on the moon. The spacecraft, called Beresheet – “in the beginning” in Hebrew – has entered lunar orbit and is scheduled to land in the Sea of Serenity, also known as Mare Serenitatis, between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. CST on April 11, 2019. Not only would this be the first landing for Israel, it would be the first touchdown on the moon by a commercial spacecraft as well, with the mission being managed by the non-profit organization SpaceIL.

Meanwhile, as we wait for the landing itself, Beresheet has already returned some beautiful photos of the far side of the moon, and of Earth itself, which were posted on the company’s Twitter stream.

Unmanned missions have the luxury of a slow trajectory, and can take advantage of gravitational assists, to avoid being launched on a huge fat rocket (apologies SpaceX).

Some one shot the moon with a shotgun

Incredible all the impact craters
Strikes on the moon do not seem to be as apocalyptic as here on Earth ....

Why go there ? A bit late to the party, just about 50 years too late ;)
Edit: See it's not manned. So even longer.

only the 4th country to land a spacecraft on the moon.

quite am amazing achievement, all things considered, squeezed in by all sides by enemies
smaller than the Kruger park, and one of the most contested pieces of real estate in Human history.

to launch and land a spacecraft on another planetary body.
look at south africa, we can hardly build a road that doesnt get washed away in the first rain.
