I'm trying to activate the Capitec app on a Note 4 stock 6.01.

I installed the app from the Play store, it goes through all the steps to authenticate the app but then no authentication sms comes through, the app also doesn't ask for any permissions so I don't see how it's going to read the sms when it comes through, it must need some permissions?

All the previous phones I've had the process was painless and hassle free, are there any known issues currently with the app?

Just go into the app settings and grant it sms read permission then close the app and try again...

You need to go to a branch to activate.
If you have a token and internet banking already going you will lose that

Tried that, it's not even showing any permissions requested, no permissions to grant.

Yeah, new phone or even new rom requires branch visit.

I thought they stopped that?
Last few phones I could activate on device without going into the branch, has that now been changed?

Here's a screen shot of the app info that shows no permissions required/requested.

Finally worked out the issue, I wasn't using the native Samsung system messaging app for SMS rather EvolveSMS, when the Capitec app tried to send the Activation sms it would open EvolveSMS but not send paste in the activation SMS to send, once I reverted to the default messaging app and retried it worked. Weird because I've been using EvolveSMS for years and I'm pretty sure that it worked with Capitec the last few times I have installed and activated it.

I confirmed in the Play store that the Capitec app doesn't request any special permissions, I could swear in the past it at least requested permission to read your SMS's because the process of sending and receiving the activation SMS was automated in previous versions.

No it uses your registered email address. This is also more secure since FNB just falls back to sms.

Install and check.
I did try and it asks for your "account number/username" and then doesn't go anywhere, no instructions or help menu. The user experience technician must have been on lunchbreak when they designed the app.

You haven't activated the Fnb app recently then, they require verification via your online profile or card number and pin and payments are limited to existing beneficiaries for a period.

How does it use your registered email address, can you activate the app without going into the branch?

Phoned Capitec and asked..
The field "account number/username" means use your account number if you use that as your username or use your custom username if you have set one. So once past that hurdle, I was putting in my account number but I have a custom username set which I couldn't remember at that moment, it then asks for your pin(which which I'm assuming is your online banking pin(that was what I used) and not the pin you were using with the app in your previous phone). Then the app sends a code to Capitec who then send a code to your registered email address, once you have that code typing it into the app activates it and all good to go.

Have spent 5 hours and still no success in activating this app. I literally go round and round in circles from entering my account number and pin to sending the sms to being bounced back to the app, to have to reinput my pin again, sms again, on and on we go.
