It’s time to block all piracy sites in South Africa – SAFACT

Focus should be on making access to legal content easier, not making access to illegal content harder.

With Netflix, Showmax or Amazon video and Spotify or GPM I have no need to pirate. People will always find an excuse to pirate and continue stealing.

Blocking access to piracy sites will cause the legal consumption of content to increase in South Africa,

Not necessarily. If I were downloading movies to watch, and could no longer access certain websites, I wouldn't then go and watch it at a cinema instead. If I ever watched it at all, I would wait until I could rent it for R10.

My VHS collection has newer movies than Netflix SA and showmax

While I like the humour, this is still no excuse to pirate. You have no right to the latest and greatest, just because you cannot pay for it.

Hmm. You say you are an app developer. I'm guessing then that you have absolutely no issue with anyone copying anything you develop?

Not what I said. Just pointing out it's not stealing it's copyright infringement.

Only stops noobs.
The ISP's will need to block Google as that's what noobs use to find content.

Well with the bill passed to regulate online content in South Africa this is actually now a serious possibility.

I`m against blocking of online content in general, I don`t believe this government to be adequately qualified as a moral judge to determine what i`m allowed and not allowed to look at.
Next, Cloudy`s next incarnation, rich from being bought by some publisher, might and will probably degree that 90% online content should be (anc approved) South African.
They`ll use the moral high-ground (piracy and protection of children) to do it.

Oh really? Anyway, I just asked if you would have an issue with anyone copying what you develop. Isn't that copyright infringement?
