Teachers should arm themselves and protect themselves and other pupils too. This cannot be accepted in a democracy.

Current situation is policy implemented by anc, I doubt they will reverse it and kick these pensioner learners out.
Didn't they have "finishing schools" at some point? Or were these eliminated when they implemented the current system?

I was 12 when I started Grade 8...
Same here, was 16 when I started Matric as where half the pupils who had birthdays in the Jan -June range, recall July being the cut off so 30 June put you as the youngest in your year while 1st July made you the oldest in the next year.

We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers leave those kids alone
Hey teachers, leave those kids alone

I can't remember, what I do remember from my days is they never allowed such big age gaps and repeated failing, you got kicked out of school and could go to a college or special school etc where they will not put up with your kuk. Colleges still exist so I don't think it's a matter of the institutions being eliminated but more of gov policy changing to the current system where the allow repeated failing and large age gaps. I think the rationale was to keep them out of the streets and out of trouble, now the just cause **** at school and affect kids/teachers.

There are institutions like ABET and TVET colleges these old/disruptive 'learners' can attend, they don't belong with younger children.

I also recall some problem kids being sent to 'boys town' schools, not sure if they took the older ones.

They should leave school and do distance learning.
I would not want my 13 year old to be in school with 20 year olds.
They can't because that would mean actually studying and doing some work. Far easier to be the big kahuna in the school and lord over younger kids.

Then put them in ABET night classes.

Why do they even bother?
Just seem weird that at 20 you would still go to school.
Is it because it is free?
You can write your grade 12 exam with unisa.

Or is it fun playing with little kiddies?
It seems concerning on other levels

Me too. I made the cutoff by one day and was always the youngest in my year. Funny when I think back now but actually quite intimidating as a youngster. Many of these old students clearly feel quite the opposite.

They had such a rule a few years ago. Looks like it's been reversed. You could not be in school past age 19 back then.
Shouldn't it be fail 2 grades, so 20/early 21 is the limit. 3/55 in my class were 20 and over in Gr12, was interesting when in Gr 10 they could write their own sick notes, school ended up implementing a policy of the person paying the fees must approve it, lol.

Was only an issue in grade 4-6, and those who made issues got kicked out, after that it was just the chill people.

Yup, I still remember being carded 10 days before my 18th birthday well into 2nd quarter of first year Varsity :X3:

Also remember getting my driver's and the guys commenting that I didn't mention it to anyone - only because so many people before me had gotten it while we were still at school.
