Good day my name is Will Barnard.
I am working in the IT industry now for the last 18years of my life. Currently I live in Oudtshoorn the Western Cape for the last 10 years. I am married and have two beautiful children. My Wife is very happy at her work and would not easily leave Oudtshoorn. I have been getting a raw deal in IT work. My Job title is IT Consultant, but I merely get payed10k. I am thankful though that I have a job.

I administer computer systems at a number of large businesses plus some of the schools. I do all their infrastructure networks and servers + desktop management, support, expansions and new setup's.

I have a decision to make. The skill set, talents and gifts I have, I believe and always say: "is a gift from GOD". HE is the One that gives me wisdom and insight and make it possible for me to deliver results and solutions for all the IT problems I have had to deal with over these years. My only IT paper qualification I have is A+, but that means nothing anymore to big companies like Petro Sa in Mosselbay or SAA in George, which is about 75km both from Oudtshoorn.

18 Years of IT problem solving and keeping up with the latest technologies, is a lot of, know how and wisdom I have built up over the years.

Decision I have to make is go in as competition and start my own IT Company in June when I will be receiving a sum of money or start looking for better employment as a person with 18years of IT skills. If I do start an IT company, my boss for one, will not be happy with me, but that is it. Clients won't mind as long as they get good authentic service at a great price.

I have a lot of job satisfaction in what I do, it is just the reward, money wise, I get that I am dissatisfied with.

Any Advise will be greatly appreciated.
Blessing, peace and love to any one reading this.

1) Get a recruitment agency to secure a job at least.
2) Work privately, on the side. You have the contacts of all the other companies that you work for.

You haven't up skilled in 18 years. There's your first problem.

18 years experience means jack **** unless you've up skilled, which you haven't. I personally wouldn't hire a candidate who's stagnated for 18 years as it says a lot about their character / drive.

Thank you MickeyD, I will not do something that stupid again. Personal info over the internet not good, Thank you

jsheed_sa I have up skilled over these years. From building my first Pentium 1 for a customer to managing servers and cloud servers is a big up skill and from mastering dos6.1 to windows 10 also very up skilled and from managing and configuring server nt to server Cloud 365 with exchange very up skilled again I would say. Also managing Automate dealing with support queries in the motor industry also very up skilled. Security software, remote software, dnns, vpn all up skilled over the years. from 28kb modems to adsl vdsl and fibre also very up skilled. Also give IT support SWD Cricket part of The SA Cricket network very up skilled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On a personal note I surrender all of me to GOD and give it my all to bare the fruit of The Spirit so taking on my character would be like taking on GOD's Character, because HE is LORD of my life and I Belong to HIM. I am nothing apart from HIM. All I can do is because of HIM. It is no longer I that live, but Christ that lives within me. Think twice when taking on someone's character. You never know with who's character your dealing with. I forgive you and hold nothing against you, Knowing and believing in The Truth shall set you free.

The fact that you posted your personal cellphone number on a public forum shows a lot about your "wisdom".

Quite honestly, those "skills" can be learnt in a matter of days with Google and a computer. I'm not trying to bash you but you need to realise that the IT industry is incredibly competitive and enough is never enough.

You need to be realistic with your expectations. You're not very likely to earn R40k pm doing system admin work in a small town. Hell, you'd be lucky to earn that in Jhb, being a sys admin.

Maybe look into remote support via a company like Dimension Data? A client is supported by one of their guys who is based in PE.

Thank you for your advise I appreciate it.

@OP, are you limited under a non-compete. I suspect in the case of a small town that wouldn't be the case? Perhaps try getting some of your current clients on-board and once you have enough, only then stop working for your current employer. That is if they'll go, and not stick with the current company.. All the best though.

very up skilled indeed.

Why do you feel the need to bring your religion into this discussion?

You come across as a bit looney. Try to keep emotion out of your posts. A mention of your conviction in your religion is okay, but ranting on about it makes the reader lose interest.

And then having posted your personal cell number on the forum but then claiming to be "very up skilled" in "Security software" leaves one with some doubts.

That being said, I'm sure you have gained a lot of varied IT administrative knowledge over the years. And R10k pm sounds rather little for your years of experience.
Without additional certification (and remember, certification shows both interest and effort from your side), it's going to be hard to justify R40k pm. In a small town.

My advice:
- tone down the religious ranting
- keep defensive emotion out of your posts (and your dealings in general)
- if there is no non-compete clause in your contract, try to determine which clients would move to your company should you open one
- get certification! If you already have the knowledge, this should be a breeze for you

Good luck. I wish you well.

Firstly, we just removed a candidate off our short list for a technical support manager who put Practising Christian as one of his interests. Sorry but no thanks. Anybody who feels they need to say this, probably wont be a good fit in our dynamic team.

Dont give credit to a god for your abilities, own up to your own experience based on effort you put in to get to where you are. A certain god would have nothing to do with that, from our perspective anyway.

Just a question, would you have done that with all the religions? If you did that cr@p to any other religion you would find your self in cr@p. Not religious but being prejudice against somebody before you met them to me is just stupid.
